but hey, I'll be in Chicago later this week for absolutely no reason except riding my lady's coattails (a local university that is not the one all of you people here attend is bringing her in to give a talk). my schedule is pretty tight, but we have Thursday night free, so if anybody wants to get dinner and/or drinks, say the word.

we're staying at this swank-looking joint, so keepin' it real around Lincoln Park will probably be the theme.

damn! meanwhile, my Chicago experience has been pretty meager this time around--watched my lady rock a scholarly talk, amused myself around the Harold Washington Library for a few hours, began drinking at the rather humble Manhattan's Bar around 5, and--despite some ace local beer recs from Yojimbo--somehow found ourselves doing Southern Comfort lime shots, and we were passed out by 9pm back at the hotel.

gonna see if I can make it to Powell's at least, but have a meeting at 2pm and still sitting around hotel in my underwear, so probably better get moving.

I've been thinking again about trying to do something where I would possibly live in Chicago for 3 months if I get into a program.

This question isn't really about chicago but:

What do normal people do with their apartments and pets when they want to keep them but have to leave for a few months? Maybe I would bring my cat with me.

oh but also a question about chicago. If I also needed to provide my own place to stay n such, where would be the best neighborhood to do that?

Growing Power, there are several farms in different locations in chicago. I don't know which one.

It would be for the summer. I have to apply first and also see if my boss would let me leave for three or four months and then come back. I think about this thing every year. Last year I didn't do it because of bullshit reasons and no money.
