It's been a long time since I've eaten New Haven pizza (my family used to drive the long way home sometimes from NYC just to do it) and much less time since I've eaten at Piece, so my review may lack accuracy, but I think that Piece's pizza is a very good approximation and delicious, but unsurprisingly not quite the same as the real New Haven thing.

So lptj chicagoans: my dad wants to get blucas a guitar of the acoustic variety, something in the $1,000 range.  He wants to get him a gift card to someplace round where blucas lives (although not necessarily because blucas be drivin).  He also wants it to be a place with a lot of selection so he can get what he wants.  He also wants me to figure it out for him.  I want you to figure it out for me.  Thanks.

If you get the kind with the metal studs around the base of the shaft, it oughtta lock into place more easily.  The only downside is that you have to make sure it fits in there pretty precisely, or it'll just slide back out again as soon as he stands up.  Wait until blucas falls asleep, then measure him down there.

A couple of my dearest friends are moving to Chicago in a couple weeks. They're in town right now looking around for places to live. They're pretty sure they've got a place found near Humboldt Park. They're probably going to eat at Hot Doug's for lunch tomorrow. So if any Chicagoans happen to be there and see a dude with a Calvin and Hobbes sleeve, then be his friend because he's one of the best dudes ever.

I was last year, but I moved at the beginning of September.  I'm basically at Division/Western.  Right by the big Puerto Rican flag.

I mean, Hyde Park kind of doesn't have a goddamn thing to do, and now I'm walking distance from the Violet Hour/Jerry's/Smallbar/Big Star/Empty Bottle/Subterranean/and so forth.

Oh, hey, I know Antero et al love Violet Hour, but have you been Whistler yet?  Milwaukee/Fullerton, cocktails are amazing.  There's also a microbrewery opening up on that same block any day now.

The Whistler is a pretty nice joint.  It isn't as good as the VH, which is just superlative in every way, but there are very few places that are.

I'd be down for an outing but it's finals

My current bar-crush is Big Star, which is across the street from the VH and run by their head bartender and Chef Paul Kahan.  They've got a massive amount of American whiskey and tequila, cheap beer, cheap cocktails that involve a full measure of high-quality liquor, and cheap high-quality Mexican food.  I love it.

The tiny inexplicable potato salad is my favorite Korean tradition.  My Korean friends don't even know why it's there.

I recently went to a Korean restaurant called Do Rae Jung.  It was excellent.  Consumed raw marinated blue crab and made a mess.
