it happens pretty often. one job I had years ago (worked there for a couple of years), on the last day the boss yelled out "hey, Kristen!" as he always did when he wanted to talk to me, which was pretty confusing, as I sat between a Kristen and a Christine.
I think today BL actually called me kur-sten, rather than cure-sten (I didn't hear the Kristen, but I was busy trying to get my brain to figure out what to say), which I barely notice, as opposed to Kristen, which is not my name. though I did notice today as P had specifically asked the production assistant to make sure he said my name right. watcha gonna do.

I have an email address that I use for more formal things. (It's first name dot last name @ gmail.) All day I've been getting emails asking about the 2006 Nissan Altima that I'm selling on Craigslist addressed to first name last name @ gmail (no dot). These emails should not be delivered to me, since that's not my address. Is there a way for me to tell google about it?

I'm not sure that there is, but it is a recognised gmail problem. (my mum's account is firstname.lastname, and she gets lots of emails for any number of firstname.lastname(anyvarietyofnumbers) as she has a reasonably common name. Her solution was to sleuth around a bit and figure out where they were supposed to go, forward them with a note saying "please make sure your friends/relatives know this is not your email address") sorry no help there though.

Weird. My solution was to delete them because I couldn't see any way to profit from it, and I don't really care if my Craigslist posting namesake sells her car or not.

I have spent the last two days since I finished all my work for the term being a really horrible person. Its freezing cold, and I was bitching and moaning about that, and getting panicky and crying for no reason and snapping at C also for no reason. I realised this morning that I was actually stressed because I don't have anything to do except my job at nights, and I've been so busy the last month that I was feeling guilty that I had spare time. I kept trying to invent pressing urgencies so I wouldn't be doing some indulgent, selfish thing like sitting down and reading a nice book in bed while eating sandwiches. I am trying to give myself permission now.

My dad has degenerative spondylolisthesis and cervical spinal stenosis. He's being transferred to NYU to see a neurosurgeon there. Things aren't as bad as they could be, I guess. But I'm not sure whether I should come home or not. I haven't seen him in over a year.

wishing the best from here, too.
also I missed my grandmother's funeral this week because the Catholic church there is staffed by a bunch of assholes who couldn't be bothered to fit in a brief weekend ceremony for a woman who'd gone to their stupid church for over eight decades, so they crammed it early in the week and only allowed one speaker even then (most of the rest of the extended family missed it too). oh well, no love lost between the church & me, and I enjoyed my final conversations with her.

I can't understand that... Maybe my church, or any other Catholic church I've attended for a funeral had really small congregations, but I've never heard of limiting the speakers.

Thanks, guys. It's a relief, I guess, in that he's had symptoms of
something
(I mean, in addition to all-purpose mental illness) for at least three years now -- at my graduation from college he couldn't be on his feet more than ten minutes without getting exhausted, and every time I've seen him since he's been barely able to stay balanced -- plus his emails have gotten more and more incomprehensible, due in large part to the increasing numbness in his fingers and hands -- but the surgery looks to have a really long and difficult recovery. He may have to wear some sort of metal brace, which will effectively immobilize him -- and he'd have to move back in with my mother, which is horrifying for too many reasons. But these are all uncertainties right now -- he may not even go ahead with the surgery -- so for the time being I'm in sweltering Iowa, taking Russian, and working in the library. I really appreciate all your support.

Somebody probably mistyped their own email address - gmail actually doesn't recognize the dot. You could add dots all over and it would still work.
