I Came Upon A Child Of God (upcoming concerts)

Old one hit 23 pages, so here we go.
Going to seen Neko Case in a couple weeks, but I'm more excited for November to roll around, because fucking JESUS LIZARD.
I went to the Variety Playhouse box office to pick up a ticket and they were almost gone. Shit went quick.

I'm in the middle of a good gig week: Holy Fuck & DD/MM/YYYY last Friday for free, Broken Social Scene on Saturday also for free, Micachu tonight, Future of the Left tomorrow and Japandroids on Thursday. And then last Sunday, for my non-gig day, I went to Afrofest, which featured mostly local stuff, and saw a couple decent acts there as well.

Saw Neko with Dexter Romweber at the Cradle a few years back. Both were great, she made lots of funny, smarmy jokes in light of a terrible sound meltdown during her set.

That's certainly worth an overnight trip if you're within driving distance.

It's mostly finding someone to deal with the cats.

You know cats can stay alone for a while, right?

Yeah, but it's a small apartment and they get fed daily and if their box doesn't get cleaned regularly they poop on things and I'm an overprotective parent.

Jeepers, I left Squish home alone for four days once. I just left her a huge bowl of food and got one of those gallon water dispensers and an extra litter box. She was fine.

Yeah, I've grown up having cats all my life and we've never had any negative experiences with leaving them by themselves for a few days. The worst consequence ever encountered was having to clean up a little poop afterwards.

ditto on the low maintenance/long weekend approach w/ cats...no need to treat 'em like a dog.

lastclearchance alerted me to the upcoming
Siren Music Festival
, with free performances by Built to Spill, Future of the Left, Japandroids, etc., but alas, it conflicts with my 195-minute Robert Kramer film that afternoon. I might be able to make BTS, though . . . or, er, Spank Rock on the second stage, about whom I know nothing except that I vaguely recall some minor LPTJ controversy over his neo-booty-rap a while back and its implications for . . . prescriptive notions of blackness, was it?

I'll miss Siren Fest too- at work. I'd like to see Monotonix and future of the left though. Oh well! it takes over an hour to get out there anyway for me.

this Tuesday there are three pretty awesome shows...and I can only pick one.
Mark Eitzel @ the Lizard Lounge
Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby @ TT's
Mark Burgess @ Hennessey's
i've made up my mind to see Burgess...I'm a massive Chameleons fan, he'll be doing some of their songs w/ a band (Curtain Society), and it fairly blows my mind that this show is happening at all.

Based on the venues I'd say Eitzel & Wreckless Eric. Based on the artists I'd say Wreckless Eric.

I'd be torn between the two Marks, but I guess if I lived where narlus lives I'd get a chance to see Eitzel way more often than Burgess. As it is, living in Richmond I never have a chance to see Eitzel ever, so I'd have to go see him over Burgess, because it'd probably be my only chance to ever see either of them and I like Eitzel better.
