I just bought two tickets to paradise, which is to say I am going to go see Faust and Sunn O))) next month. Fuckin' Faust! I never quite expected that would even be a possibility, but it's too cool that I'mma be there.
I love Can but have never delved further into krautrock. But Faust is playing here in six weeks or so, so I guess now is the perfect opportunity for Discovering Krautrock: Stage Two. I had always thought Neu! was supposed to be stage two and I would hit up Faust later down the line, but I suppose I can improvise and do Faust next instead.
Man, there are a ton of good shows coming up. Also just found out the Avett Brothers are coming up next month.
I've got Faust tickets for their Oct 1 show in Brooklyn. A friend saw their outdoor show in Rhode Island (in a train yard, I think?) a few years ago and said it was incredible. Not sure if it's the same line-up, but two of the original members are in on this caper.
Pretty stoked!

The Avett Brothers are coming around here, too, but the crowd was so fucking annoying the last time I saw them that I might just pass on it.

Free outdoor Reflection Eternal show tomorrow night. Should be fun. I've seen Mr. Kweli a couple times, but not Mr. Tek.

Tomorrow: Polar Bear Club, Pegboy, Face to Face. We'll probably be old people and stay in the back, unless Bill gets really excited about Pegboy.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: Attica! Attica! at venues in New Brunswick, Trenton, Philly. Definitely going to Trenton, maybe to NB (basement show crackdown blues), way less likely to Philly.

You sure you're not really going to see Attack! Attack! and just don't want to admit it?

I'm just happy to hear from you, G! That's a sweet looking poster--I wish I could make it across the Atlantic for one of 'em.

Oh hey, apparently Islands are playing here tonight at 7pm. Early all ages show, and cheap!
I'm there. See you dudes.

I am 30 as of last month; I mentioned it was all-ages to explain why it was so early (8 pm).

Nothing wrong with an early show. I grow tired of these doors-at-9-and-everyone-gets-their-ass-in-gear-around-11 shows.

the last time I saw Ted Leo was the early all-ages set he played right before the 21+ show because I wanted my brother to come. Dude didn't pull any punches for the young-uns either--even clocked his head on the overhead PA pretty good during "Ballad of the Sin Eater." Great show. No idea how he mustered the energy to play, go sell merch, then go play another set. Sheesh.

Hold Steady tonight. Glad I checked the ticket this morning - I was sure the show was tomorrow night.

Anybody seen Built To Spill lately? Are they worth 22 bucks? I've never seen them before.

Damn! $22! I used to see Built to Spill for $8. Is that what they're running these days?!
Gosh. If you've never seen them, I'd say go for it. Me, I've seen them at least 4 or 5 times, and that was during their prime. I haven't heard the new album yet. On one hand, I haven't liked the last 2 or 3 very much, but on the other hand, early signs for the new one seem promising.

I haven't seen them recently, but some friends saw them play Omaha a week or so ago and said they were amazing.
I guess they were certainly better than when I saw them in 2006 (I think?) when the venue sucked and they were generally pissed off and played everything by the numbers and made a b-line for the bus after. I know it's totally uncharitable, but that show kind of put me off BTS in general.

I remember seeing a relatively unknown Modest Mouse open for Built to Spill back in the late 90s. Say what you will about what MM has become, but that shit was unbelievable.

I guess I paid about $20 plus fees to see Built To Spill their last time through. Well worth it and it was certainly not a by the numbers performance. When I've seen them they've always been a bit jammy.
This was a couple years ago, though.

Three albums would stretch back to
Keep It Like A Secret
, right? Maybe I am forgetting one. At any rate that is sometimes my favorite. It is mostly
Perfect
and sometimes
There's Nothing Wrong
but still.

Yeah, I like
Keep It Like a Secret
. I don't put on the same level as the two that preceded it, though.

You would have hated the 80s in New York.
We'd go see The Cramps at the Peppermint Lounge or something on a weekend night and to maximize drink sales, the club wouldn't put the headliner on until an hour before legal closing time. So we'd wait around until three in the morning, see the band and then they'd put all the house lights up and play excruciatingly bad loud music to get all the customers out by 4:00.
Good thing we were in our 20s and full of beans!

It's not quite that bad in Athens. Most shows end between 1 and 2 (which is last call 'round here). But it's rare to see anybody playing music before 10:30 or so.

I am now not going to see Kanye because the entire tour is cancelled.
This is probably the 59th time I've not been able to see Kanye for progressively more and more stupid reasons. I'm a little pissed, a little disappointed, but mostly just miffed. Goddamn you, Kanye, goddamn you.
Still looking forward to TMBG, OM, LC, and TMG (if you can figure those out (though some are easy), you're my new best friend).
