You mean to this day heh?  He died of congestive heart failure 4 years later nearly to the day.

Just a note to what jess has clearly considered and/or already knows about, but it wasn't obvious to me - I was talking to a cheerful veteran agent who clearly knew what she was talking about otherwise, so when she told me "heck no, pets travel in the cargo hold all the time, it's fine" I figured it wasn't like, cruel or scary or anything.  Didn't even cross my mind.  She even waved goodbye to the cat when she put him on the checked baggage belt.

It's a queer combination of hilarious and heartbreaking to watch your cat looking at you with a blank expression from the grill of a carrier as he's slowly rolling on a conveyor belt and finally disappears behind the rubber flaps.
