Hah, a bunch of the lyrics quoted here have stretched it. Anytime someone does the "all caps" thing I hear a Scott Stapp-ish deep "yeeeeeaaaaahhh-uhh" voice in my head, and sometimes, as with what Myke posted, it's totally wrong for the actual song being quoted. It's not as funny in those instances. But it still rules, because then I end up thinking about some song I really like (i.e. earlier references to Veruca Salt).

And now to keep this post on topic:

Here's a guaranteed flamewar:  Can we consider latter-day Metallica post-grunge?  I think yes.

To wit:

IT GRIPS YOU SO HOLD MEEEE
IT STAINS YOU SO HOLD MEEEE-AH
IT HATES YOU SO HOLD MEEEEE
IT HOLDS YOU
HOLDS YOU
HOLDS YOU
UNTIL IT SLEEPS-AH

Haha I see exactly what you're saying but I think James Hetfield was coming up with that vocal style right as the grunge thing was starting. He was doing it on the black album, for example. I think maybe the post-grunge vocal style was what dudes like Scott Stapp came up with when they were influenced equally by Hetfield and dudes like Layne Staley.

I think all the blame for Scott Stapp lies on Eddie Vedder, in terms of vocal stylings.

Deliberate mispronunciation and lengthening of vowels was a common affectation in the early 90s. Staley, Hetfield, Anthony Kiedis, Eddie Vedder all did it, even Billy Jo Armstrong to an extent. It's like there was some itinerant Harold Hill protege running up and down the west coast from 1975 through the mid-'80s teaching all the children to keep their mouths in a rigid 'o' no matter what words were to be sung.

Though my fav line is "the pussycat and me are curling up right now", but it just doesn't look right in allcaps.
