Apparently Stephen Fry's Twitter is worth reading, but I've never bothered.

hmmm - I guess that depends on your opinion of Stephen Fry.

My imaginary friend, sometime freelance journalist and occasional member of Scritti Politti, Rhodri is m y favourite tweeter. Miserable, wry, funny and sardonic.

It just occurred to me that I could look at other people's Favorites in Twitter, and now I'm finding all kinds of brilliance!

I just noticed: The only people who use Foursquare are people of no importance.

I just noticed: the only people who dog on Foursquare are super profound, intelligent arbiters of what are and are not valid uses of social media.

I suppose I phrased that poorly and deserve scorn.

What I mean to say is that I don't ever see anyone of any public stature - even bloggers or whatever - using Foursquare.

random celebrity checks into coffee shop on foursquare, next thing you know there's a traffic jam outside and you can't get in or out the door

i wonder why not?

I certainly understand it with celebrities, but what about writers/bloggers and other people who are, generally, involved with social media?

I'd be *super* surprised to find out that the dudes at like Mashable or Gizmodo aren't using some kind of location-based social media. In fact, I know verifiably that at least a few of the Mashable guys do, because they write about it. I'm not sure to whom you're referring; if you mean like Andrew Sullivan or something, I'd say Jim's explanation is as good as any. Though really, you've got no idea if these people are using Foursquare or Gowalla or not; they may just elect not to link those accounts to their Twitter accounts. There could be whole celebrity friend-networks of location-based social media users out there that are invitation only and thus "safe" for them.

Damn, you're right!  I completely forgot that they're entirely separate services.

Durrr.

Man, I can't really be bothered with Twitter anymore, now that their website is hopelessly broken for me at work.
