I prefer heat and rain to cold and rain. Nothing weather can do to me makes me feel as miserable as being wet and cold. It's like the skies are setting you up for a killer combination. First it soaks you to the bone, then it saps your life force out of you. With a summer rain you can be out there in a swimming suit and its fine. In fact, summer rains are my favourite times to take a swim.
Except that you can't hang out in a swimsuit when you're going to work or doing anything else in your regular life. With cold rain a nice wool coat and an umbrella will shield you from the worst of it. I'd take cold rain any day.

Summer storms are hard to beat when you've got a nice dry porch to enjoy them from, that's for sure.

Once on a porch during a June storm a huge tree limb came through the roof right on top of us it as if to say "observe for your fun but die also."

In re cold and rain, I fucking love that! You can feel that rod of life arcing through the center of your torso! Hot and churning, keeping the elements out!
Right now, though, it's like 80 in my apartment, and me and the cats are all pretty much sprawled across our floors, trying not to move. Ech.

Facebook is full of NYers all saying FUCK SUMMER. I remember it not being that bad except for the subways, which were truly unpleasant. Hang in there, dudes. Four seasons and all that, so this won't last forever and a beautiful crisp Fall will be along soon.

the humidity + the heat build-up can be pretty stifling. it's usually not unbearable for me until August, though, the only time of year I actually regret leaving Alaska.
in other news: rain! now I don't have to water my herbs!

We took the cover off the pool yesterday. The situation under the cover is pretty dire. Sigh.

I guess the upside to sweating constantly, nonstop, just a torrential flood coming through my pores, is that my skin looks really smooth and nice.

My skin is also enhanced by sweating as long as the quantity is great and I can rinse my face once indoors.

I'm definitely not part of the "fuck summer" camp, at least not this year, but I do have an entry for this thread. Apologies to anyone who is grossed out by this.
I usually think to wear sunscreen. However, this particular day had been overcast, and there didn't seem to be a need. The sun couldn't have been out for more than just a little bit, but it did its damage, majorly. My face was also burnt, as evidenced by this picture:
Though really it was nowhere near that bad. Exaggerated for comedic effect, I guess.

The rinsing is the key bit, for me.

Jeb, it's totally possible to get really nasty sunburn on an overcast day in summer, as the clouds don't block all (or even much) of the UV.... living in the skin cancer epicentre means I've seen some truly awful sunburn in my time... paradoxically, US sunscreen has a higher stated SPF than what we can buy here (30+ is as high as they care to name) So if you ever come here, don't forget your sunscreen.

My freckles got all swung up across my back and shoulders, but I never went outside without a shirt! How did this happen? They weren't there a month ago. I'm afraid that I'll get skin cancer unless I live in a lead box maybe.

I got the freckle thing going on on the shoulders and forehead. I've had a love/hate relationship with sunscreen this year due to inexplicably developing some kind of allergy to sunscreen. I got some zinc-based coppertone for sensitive skin, but that shit goes on like spackling paste. I picked up some Aveeno spray that I haven't tried yet, but hopefully it will go on nicely without turning me into Casper the chalky white guy.

The fan for the A/C in my car stopped working. A tiny bit of cold air leaks out of the vents, but there's nothing pushing it. Absolutely fucking miserable. Hopefully I can get it in to get it fixed after work on Mon or Tues, because fuck driving around with no A/C right now.

I am getting freckles all over my face for the first time in my life. Weird! I kind of like it.
I never used to sweat, but since I started biking, my metabolism has gone up and now I sweat like a beast 99% of the time.

I've moved back to the world of no-summer so it never gets above 21C ever. Most days its cloudy and a bit drizzley and like 13C.
Its good times.

I walked around in the sun for a solid four and a half minutes today before I remembered to put on some sunscreen. It was enough to develop a bit of a rash on my arms.
Apparently back home it's a good 10-15 degree C cooler than it is here (18-22 range vs. 32-35 range), so I do look forward to getting back.

Drop another 10 degrees Celcius or more off of that and you have the current weather in Trondheim. The sun has at least come out after about a week of miserable rain and cloud, but the wind will cut through you like a customs checkpoint body scanner.

Man, that sounds like not much fun at all. How long are you still going to be there for - I am assuming you might return there before the summer starts properly in Norway and long before the winter is over in NZ, so that the net result of your studies abroad will end up being three winters in a row?

24 hours of daylight doesn't feel very wintery, I should say. It's just the last week where the weather has gone bad: I was first surprised by how summery it has gotten here, and now I'm surprised by how nasty this early-summer rain has been.
But yes, I won't have had much exposure to summer from this trip. I fly back to the other side of the world the 29th, after I go visit santaclaustral for a few days.
