Just this week, the first round of fall seasonals appeared in the coolers of my local beer merchant.

Which is to say: FUCK YOU, SUMMER; YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY OUT

Lemons, sugar, water. Think on it for a bit.

My girl was telling me about basil lemonade the other day, and how wonderful it was. Guess she just added some beat-up basil, let sit overnight, and strained the next day.

I last made lemonade way back in May or June.. We were getting a million strawberries from our CSA so I made strawberry syrup to put in it. mmmm. Our friend's restaurant has house-made lemonade that is awesome. We eat there frequently enough that my lemonade needs are sated.

ps I am so sick of hot car.

A friend of mine was just talking about this last night; I guess he just threw a bunch of crushed basil in water, nothing else, and he's been drinking tons of basil-infused water this summer.

homemade lemonade is much better if you start with simple syrup (cooking water and sugar together).  I like to make it a bit strong, and then add seltzer.  and it's excellent with all kinds of additions like berries, basil, mint, etc. as discussed above.

I use the Joy of Cooking recipe, more or less:

The best lemonade I ever had was at a cafe where they brought you a little jug of sugar syrup, a jug of fresh lemon juice and a botlle of sparkling water. And a glass with ice in it. But I've never made it for myself. Perhaps this will change this year...

Similarly, one adds the sugar to sweet tea before letting it cool.
Assuming one loves sweet tea.
And America.

Fuck man, you gotta _start_ with the sugar.  pout r the boiling water over it and then stick all the teaabacks in.  stick in the back of the fridge.

OK, good, good. I'm drinking beer, but I haven't eaten a whole lot today, and I also have to cook later. I got mid-term break, as of 12 today! Yesss
