9.5" of rain so far today, second highest one-day total in my area since record-keeping started. Still raining. My street is a lake.

That's funny, my basement was a lake!  Maybe they know each other!

What the hell man. Athens is back in the mid-90s for no reason.

That was 8 days ago. Now I'm sitting here in a hoodie, thinking how I wouldn't be upset if they turned the radiators on a little early this year.

Not much porch weather in 2010 I guess.

Starting to get a little apocalyptic here. Over 15" of rain since Monday, with "an additional seven to 10 inches expected through Thursday." Work let us go early, commute was royally jacked. Like a moron, I drove through a creek that was up over the road and gave myself about a 50-50 shot at making it. That road is now closed.

I just got a new electric bill, and am delighted by how low it is!  Winter bless us, every one!

I want to hang on to summer for dear life.  It is really nice right now but I dread humidifier and space heater weather.

I just got a new electric bill, and am delighted by how low it is!  Winter bless us, every one!

As a non-user of fans and air-conditioning*, it would have never occured to me that an electricty bill would be lower in the winter than in the summer. The opposite would be the case for me: more need for electrical light, space heaters**, and infra-red lamps whenever I catch a cold vs. none of all that in the summer time. And that's not counting (since it doesn't go on the electricity bill, strictly speaking) the cost of central heating***.

* to be fair, we have two small fans (but no air-con) in my office, which I turn on a few times a year. To be even fairer, the weather here is generally a bit more moderate than seems to be the case in large parts of the US.
** I'm a non-user of those right now, but I always enjoyed the luxury of having one in the bathroom at my parents' place, so I think I'll join the ranks of the users again at some point

Yeah, in the winter, I pay up to four times the amount that I pay in the summer months.

My August bill was $120. My October bill was $31. The only alteration in power consumption between those two months was the usage of window unit air conditioners.

I'd be more horrified by that number if I didn't factor it into my annual power bill budget.

YEAH, summer! Yesterday I was walking around at 7.15pm or so in a T-shirt with bare feet. Today it's all hot also. Means me and boy can do summertime things whenever we get around to sorting shit. Cool

Gah, it is so fucking humid here today. I hate it. And it's not even summer yet. It's the first hot spell we've had, and it's been raining like a bastard too, so it's muggy. Yuck. I hate summer. Make it stop.

When it rains in England you just put on Rain in England and everything's cool, though, right?

High of 96-plus-humidity here, and eff that, but should be slowly dropping back into the mid-eighties soon.  I went for a run early this morning, before the heat kicked in too badly.

I think the forecasted temperatures are gonna be about the same here, Greg. I don't think it's going to be too bad where I'm at, because the forecasts never account for the constant sea breeze. But go ten miles inland and they're talking about heat indices near 110 over the weekend. They said something about bringing your animals and your old people inside so they don't spontaneously combust. You don't want gramps or Mr. Tickles catching fire on the porch.

Chet those temperatures are pretty nice IMO.

Yep, we get very high temperatures in the summer (with generally a very humid, heavy atmosphere and huge storms breaking out now and then) and very low in the winter. I have to admit that so far apart from the last few days it's been fairly pleasant this year, so I shouldn't complain too much.

but....all the rain.

it still feels humid and muggy and that combined with rain is the absolute worst kind of weather.
