you know... this summer actually isn't that bad. I mean, the last week has sucked, but there was one year that it was like this from June - September. that was the worst.
Yeah. I think it just seems extra brutal because we didn't have that couple months' acclimation.

Everyone who spent this summer in a country that is 90% desert come commiserate with me.
I'm coming home in three more days, I miss rain.

Another problem with this summer: the heat is taking valuable porch-time away from me!

I prefer winter, when my high-level skills as a Northern Ranger come into full force, and everyone else is shivering and bitching.

I don't get it when people bitch about winter, but that's probably because I come from somewhere that has really good winters. It's not too cold, but better than that, it's clear and dry. So winter days are a joy - it's crisp and cold, but the sun is shining. If you're cold you add another layer of clothing, it's not like the wet cold that gets into you and makes you want to die. Or you go to bed and spend the days reading with the curtains open so the sun can warm you up more. And cups of tea, or coffee, or hot chocolate. And soup. And snuggling. All great ways to warm up.
Summer, on the other hand..it's hot and there's no escape. It's no more fun inside than out and there's nothing you can do to get cooler, except go to the pool, and then it's hot when you get out, and you have to get in your hot car and go home to your hot house and it's just hellish. At least in winter you can get to "ooh, it's cold!" and then immediately do something to fix it. Summer is "fuck, it's hot...yep, it's still hot..." I love me some winter. I'm annoyed that the time I went to Minneapolis and Chicago in the winter I had the flu so I didn't get to enjoy it more. I did have a "goodness, are my eyeballs about to freeze in their sockets?" moment though, so that was something.

I have no idea why people live in the southwest. Not hugged enough as children?
Anyway, the forecast this week has been daily revised from a high of around 82 or 83 to 90 FUCKING DEGREES. If this shit doesn't break tomorrow like they say it will, I'm gonna complain some more!
I would love for the high to be only 90 F. Can't wait for October!
Also I have been happy to've woken up to temperatures in the 70s. This is the one advantage of having to be to work at 6 am. I'll feel the full brunt of our sometimes as low as 40 F mornings in February, though.
Also this is a good answer to your question:

High five.
I will also add that dry summers really are the shit. You sweat but it dries right up and if you take a dip in the pool or a cold shower you're cooled right down.

I feel about summer exactly the same way you feel about winter. Peeps act like there's no such thing as air conditioning and otter pops. As far as winter goes, fuck all the things people say about how awesome winter is. For me, it's being cold from December to mid-March. Make that November through fucking
May
in Minnesota. (Yesterday's high was 68 F. In August.) As far as all the shit people do to warm up, there isn't enough warm liquid in the world to warm me up in the winter, and I'm not much for hiding indoors under the covers. Furthermore, I'm a solar-powered individual and when I can't get out into the sunshine for some time during the day, I feel like blowing my brains out. In addition, you have to wear so much clothing with so many more pockets that losing shit on your person becomes a daily occurrence and it takes 15 minutes to get dressed just to get outside and be freezing no matter how many layers you have on. Fuck that. I'll take sweating through two outfits and showering multiple times a day to that. It's not like you need some kind of 25 minute spa treatment twice a day to rinse off the sweat, anyway.

Would that a 25-minute spa treatment could wash away the sweat! My body pretty much generates heat nonstop, with double the heat-generation if I eat anything or move around much, so it's just a never-ending torrent of sweat that trickles down my back all day.
Winter, though -- that's when I shine! I step outside and walk around the city, absorbing the dim light of the sun while the air leeches away all my excessive heat! If I start getting too cold, all I have to do is walk faster and tense my muscles, and more heat is produced! And I get to wear a long coat! Man, I can't wait.
Incidentally, this winter-versus-summer argument keeps coming up again and again with the ladyfriend. We've joked that it's going to be what breaks us up, but I'm actually kind of worried that it may turn out to not be a joke at all in the third act.

Yeah, I am wondering on a daily basis why oh why did I move somewhere where the summers are hotter and more humid. I can deal with heat just fine (the 90° day in April in Boston was lovely thanks to the humidity being in the 40s), because then the whole sweating profusely thing is highly adaptive, but heat + humidity kills me. Not to mention the extent to which my wavy-toward-curly hair freaks the hell out. Luckily I am reminded a bunch of times each day why I did in fact move here, but the weather definitely was not a reason.

I am now in in the Bay Area on extraordinarily little sleep and am so excited because I was COLD today. I wore a sweater. And a scarf. And was still chilly. It ruled. I'm gonna cry so hard on Thursday morning.

I went to a show tonight and then had to ride my bike home after dancing for three hours. The bike ride home was all uphill for the first two thirds of the trip, and it really pushed my limits. I've been home for over an hour and I still feel sweaty and sticky. I'm going to have to take a shower just to be able to stand going to bed. I hate this. Summer, this is your fault.

Same here. We had a nice respite of cool weather that turned my frown upside-down. But now the heat is back, and my frown right along with it.

Guys, holy crap, I dunno what the deal is with all this climate change but I think I'm pretty okay with it if it means that every August will be like this one where most of the month has featured highs in the upper 70s. Holy crap this is amazing. I wake up every day and just want to spoon with the climate.

Huffington Post actually had a map up today saying Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas are supposed to be hardest hit by climate change. Not sure on the quality of the science involved, but you might just get your wish.

Ugh. Summer is like a long, deep hug. And when that gets boring you shower.
Winter makes my shins bleed. But I do enjoy the constant wish for death. And winter ending feels just as good as when a fever breaks. So it's got that--but no popsicles.

Like a long, deep hug from someone who has a contagious fever.
But today has a high of 74! YES!
