I've never been nearly as stoked about that song as a lot of people were starting as soon as that album came out. I remember hearing its name dropped in many reviews and thinking, "THAT song of all the songs on this album is the one you're gonna get hyped over?" Conversely, almost no one seemed to talk about "Grounded" until years after it came out.

And davy, you might be right re: "Silence Kid" instead of "Fillmore Jive." FJ is rather long, and yeah, it'd have to be the last track. But maybe that'd be cool! I certainly wouldn't arrange the whole thing chronologically if I were them.

In fact, I'd submit a track listing, but I've still never heard "Terror Twilight," so I would probably neglect it way too much.

I don't think anything that's not a single would make the cut from Terror Twilight (however unjust that is). "Spit on a Stranger," "Major Leagues" (which is kind of lame, really), and "Carrot Rope" will be it, probably.

And the track listing is definitely not in chronological order. They've already said "Gold Soundz" will be the first track.

That's a great way to start it off.

i put "Ann Don't Cry" on mine.

"The Hexx" could make it, too.

I think "The Hexx" has, to a lesser degree, the same problems as "Fillmore Jive." But in its favor, it was a live staple.

Mine friend Sam had a great idea: use the single version of "Summer Babe" and that counts as a pre-Matador track. I'd bet $100 that's what they did. So "Forklift" is out. Maybe "Embassy Row" will take its place?

i think it's stupid, and i'll take that $100 bet.  the Drag City records have some really solid stuff on 'em.

I'm not saying they don't, but if they only took three Drag City tracks, wouldn't you think "Summer Babe" would be one of them?

No, because dude, the single version is the version on the album. "(Winter Version)" my ass. They're the same recording.

Nevertheless, the single was a pre-Matador release. We all agree that this compilation will include "Summer Babe," right? Therefore, "Summer Babe" must be one of the pre-Matador tracks.

If it isn't, then their clues are a little sketchy. Besides, this is a "best-of" we're talking about, designed and released to get people excited about this tour. In that context, as a record label, would you rather have 3 lo-fi tracks from Westing or an extra album track from one of the Matador releases? To the huddled masses, a track like "Silence Kit" or "Here" or "Embassy Row" is gonna go over a lot better than a track like "Forklift."

If Pavement don't acknowledge that portion of their career, though, that shit is wack.

Well, a) it's probably not up to them, b) it's not like it would be unprecedented for a band's lo-fi 7-inches to be passed over on their greatest hits collection, and c) they've already mentioned that there will, in fact, be 3 pre-Matador songs included (4, if they weren't counting "Summer Babe" as one of those). So somewhere around a sixth of this collection will be pulled from the Drag City 7/10-inches...I think that's reasonable.

Yeah, it's pretty, hey?

Also, the show is on Toronto Island, which is a very pretty park, about a 10 minute ferry ride off the Harbourfront:

which can make for a very nice day.

I ate some kind of sandwich there when I was in 3rd grade. I remember enjoying the ferry ride and more, the rabbits.

Ticket acquired.

Between this and a ticket for Joanna Newsom's March gig, I have definitely blown the gig budget for the next while.

That your submission? Haha.

If "Coolin' by Sound" makes the cut, I'm burning down Matador HQ.

"Heaven Is A Truck" is a pretty surprising inclusion, and I'm sure that there's a few inevitable glaring omissions I haven't noticed yet, but overall I think this will make a really good record!
