I will listen to that momentarily.

I popped back in here, though, to mention that Blitzen Trapper's got a new one on the way. Should hit sometime at the beginning of summer (naturally). The way this year is going with new releases, all projections place it in my year-end top-5.

May is shaping up to be a huge month--in addition to the previously mentioned Hold Steady and New Pornographers, The National (May 11), LCD Soundsystem (May 18), Deftones (May 18), Harvey Milk (May 18) and Stone Temple Pilots (May 25) are all coming out. I may be alone in my anticipation for the last one, but that doesn't lessen my enthusiasm any. Let's fast-forward through April.

Even if the album is bad (unlikely), every copy sold helps support Scott Weiland's drug habit, and it feels so good to help.

New Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses album out later this year. Produced by T-bone Burnett. He's hit the big time, all right.

Bill Callahan live album and new Bonnie "Prince" Billy thing (because there's always a new Bonnie "Prince" Billy thing) coming out in I guess two weeks. The BC is live and the BPB is yet another collaboration, so who knows on either of them. And yet I have pre-ordered them both.

The preview track from the Bill Callahan record is *awesome*, I'm sure it will be great, although I refrained from ordering it assuming that I would probably not end up listening to a live album on vinyl much. Not sure what we can expect from BPB at this point - he hasn't done anything really essential in the studio for quite a while, but at least it'll probably be at least pleasant.

That's pretty shocking!

A compilation of the two EP's the fellas released prior to Post-Nothing. Of course it comes out in May (the 11th, to be precise), along with nearly every other album I'm anticipating this year.

I've heard most of that stuff, and while it's certainly not up to the standard of Post-Nothing, they're pretty fun tunes.

Oh hey, the new Method Actors reissue got Best New accolades at Pitchfork! I've always thought they were one of the brighter spots in Athens' musical past, but I didn't think this reissue was going to be a thing. I guess it's going to be a thing! Good!

And please, listen to that first track in the lala window. Holy shit. Even better than the record I have.

This will probably be my next purchase.

You can't make that up!

Well, apparently Billy Corgan can.

Anyone who does, he kicks out of the "band" and replaces.  Then he makes mean sock puppet cartoons about them.

I mean, I guess I always knew that he was about at the professional level of your average four year old, but I'd really prefer more of their first two records instead of a flood of cartoonish batshit.

a livejournal friend's passing mention is the only reference whatsoever I've seen to there being a new Weakerthans live album. I can't tell if this bodes poorly for their success or reflects a final resolution on my being completely and totally out of touch.

Based on the continued use of Livejournal, I'll go with the latter.
