It's practically out of necessity, in my case. This year turned out to have one fertile period--late summer into early fall--but before and after that period it's been dead.

Probably it has something to do with my job but at this point I pretty much constantly feel overwhelmed by an onslaught of new music, at all times. My computer's hard drive is so full of albums, many of which I haven't even listened to yet, that if the entire music world took 6 months off right now I'd breathe a heavy sigh of relief.

same here (...but didn't that album come out a while ago?)

Oh, yes, released in March apparently. No idea how that very important fact escaped me, especially as I have been reasonably all over the TwinSisterMoon and Isengrind '10 albums.

how about this one as a substitute?

Natural Snow Buildings 'Waves of the Random Sea' 2xLP / CD (early 2011)

http://www.normanrecords.com/records/121994

also that centauri agent album is a free download, apparently, which is a delightful surprise!

Only a double! They're slacking a bit there.

Actually, I'm really digging The Centauri Agent, especially the 41-minute opener.

i'm fixing to spend tomorrow listening to it while i lie on the floor talking to our cat*.

*this is wishful thinking: i'm fixing to spend tomorrow listening to it while i do a bunch of stuff for work. but still, if there's work to be done it's better to do it while listening to NSB than to do it while not listening to NSB. 41 minutes, you say? count me in  Cool

I have very few details about this besides "early 2011" but Low is going to have a new album next year! And they have a free EP for download on their site! And it was recorded in a church in the Netherlands! AND IT IS REALLY GOOD

Robert Plant received 2 Grammy nominations today -one for his version of  Low’s “Silver Rider” and one for his full Band of Joy CD that features 2 Low covers -”Silver Rider” and “Monkey”. Congrats to Mr. Plant.

Also, Nels Cline plays on the new Low record.

What I look like when I think about that:  Shocked

Planned Machinefabriek releases, including a follow-up to the incredibly great Box Music!!!:

Livemaze
Cassette on the new label Chemical Tapes,
documenting a live soundtrack for a film by Paul Clipson

Bad Fortune
A fancy white ten inch vinyl record on Champion Version, with
two 10 minute live edits recorded in Tokyo and Rotterdam

Molkedrippen (by Piiptsjilling)
Recorded during the same sessions as Wurdskrieme, this
cd will be released by the great Japanese label Spekk.

Patina (with Tim Catlin)
The follow up to Glisten, to be released on vinyl by Low Point

Grower (with Gareth Davis)
The 'sister release' of Drape, on the lovely Sonic Pieces label

Jazz Standards (with Gareth Davis)
It's still a bit unclear when excactly this long announced five inch
vinyl cutie (including My Funny Valentine and Oh, Doctor Jesus)
is going to see the light of day. But it will. Soon. On Brian Records.

Ghost Lanes (with Gareth Davis)
First released on 3-inch cd-r, now re-issued on vinyl
by Dekorder, with a 15 minute bonustrack

Birds in a Box (with Stephen Vitiello)
Postponed a few times, this follow up to Box Music (on 12K)
will finally be released, by the new French label nuun.

Mort Aux Vaches
(with Peter Broderick, Nils Frahm and Kleefstra|Bakker|Kleefstra)
Recorded for VPRO's Dwars, in 2009, to be released on Staalplaat,
as part of their legendary Mort Aux Vaches series.

So Nick, are you basically able to listen to like a machinefabriek release like... twice before another one comes out?

The most bizarre thing about this is that Band Of Joy was Robert Plant and John Bonham's group when they were in high school, before they joined Led Zeppelin.

Good question! I have over 50 solo releases by him now, and another 20 or so collaborations.

I think I do listen to a lot of music though. Lastfm informs me that I've played an average of 28 tracks a day for the last 4 years on the home PC. Add to that 7 or 8 hours a week on buses, and I think that accounts for it.

Did I mention there's a new Tim Hecker album called 'Ravedeath, 1972' coming out?!!?! I know I did, but sometimes I get so excited about it that all I can realistically do is repeat myself on a message board.

I guess I listen to a lot of music too, because I'm sure I listen to even more than that per day.

I would imagine that some of those 28 tracks are pretty long in Nick's case.

iTunes tells me for the last 3-4 years it's 40.5 songs played per day with an average length of 3:44. That's about two and a half hour per day. Not counting vinyls, cds etc. Basically I try to listen to music during most activities like studying, cooking, driving, chillin', so shit adds up quickly.

So... "Natural" came out in 2007, I think it's about time for a new Mekons album.

It looks like the Pearl Jam reissue campaign is finally continuing, with deluxe editions of both Vs. and Vitalogy out this spring. These are two of my favorite albums ever, so I'm a little excited.

Not a lot of information on them yet, I'm afraid. That Cameron Crowe film is also intriguing.

I can't find that thread where we listed our favourite albums of the last decade, but I'm pretty sure Deaf Center's seminal Pale Ravine was in my top 5. Since then, their main man Erik.K.Skodvin has started the Miasmah label (home to albums by the likes of Rafael Anton Irisarri, Elegi, Gultskra Artikler and my 2009 album of the year, Jacaszek's Treny) as well as basically inventing the genre sometimes labelled 'acoustic doom', especially through his Svarte Greiner releases.

Splendid news then, in the form of a taster of the first Deaf Center release for 3 years, Owl Splinters.

I read "taster" as "toaster" at first, and in the context of a post of yours, the idea of listening to a toaster didn't even strike me as particularly odd.

I think Guiseppe Ielasi did indeed sample a range of kitchenware on his recent Tools album.

You like Deaf Center, don't you alex?
