Richard Skelton - Skura : Complete Works 2005 - 2010

A 20-disc collection in an ash box with glass slide, including unreleased material and the eponymous new 60-minute album.

From Sustain Release, of course.

Yeah, I... I think I want this.

*sigh*

(Pretty sure it'll be too expensive for me, though, so nevermind)

I wouldn't even know what to do with it. Every time I read the name Richard Skelton I think of this guy:

It sure is pretty, though.  Heart

Looks like there's a new TV On The Radio album coming out within the next few months!  Nine Types Of Light!  I am excited.

I'm with you on this.

Ditto, if it weren't for Dear Science. For me, that was when they became what they had threatened to become; no more "I like the idea of TV on the Radio...". Maximum Balloon is surprisingly great, too.

I'm kind of glad I've fallen out of touch with upcoming releases, 'cause now this new TV On the Radio album is a nice surprise. It was probably announced three months ago.

Oh shit!  I totally missed out on that announcement!  TVOTR are basically my favorite thing ever.

How the fuck did you manage to type that without exclamations?

In Rainbows came out during my gap year, when I was living in LA.  I was playing in the band for a friend who is a definite Radiohead superfan.  He called my up right when it was announced, and shouted, "WHERE ARE YOU RIGHT NOW?!"  I was driving up La Cienega.  "REMEMBER IT!"  Did I mention that he tends to talk in all-caps?  "RADIOHEAD IS RELEASING AN ALBUM IN TEN DAYS!!"  He actually whispers in all-caps too.  Impossible fellow.

Someone should make a fake radiohead album announcement site some day they could make bank on the preorders.

There is also the small matter of the new PJ Harvey record coming out! Just sayin' (not to mention Tim Hecker, whom I'm however less familiar with)

I got Gruff Rhys's record off emusic this morning and have listened to it twice in a row already - it's doing it for me right now.

Also Rural Alberta Advantage has a new one coming out March 1st.

I'll likely check out that East River Pipe record.

I love the title of this record, but I've never been able to figure this band out. I've heard 2 or 3 songs that just knock me over---one of them is "Crystal Queen"--but when I've tried full albums, I never seem to stay interested.

I'll likely just buy The Twilight Singers record today, hopefully on vinyl. I've already heard the other two albums I was really looking forward to (Hayes Carll and Gruff Rhys), but they haven't sold me yet. I need to buy the new Cake album, too. I've been listening to it pretty much nonstop. (And it comes on red vinyl!)

Got that Bright Eyes album on order from Amazon.com, just 'cause I get every Bright Eyes album when it comes out. Oh, and I have faith it could be pretty damn good too!

But I'm most excited about the Rural Alberta Advantage album coming out on March 1st, their debut was amazing. Saddle Creek on kind of a roll I guess (where are you Two Gallants?).

I don't think any ERP albums are totally no-filler/all-killer, it's just not how he rolls, but they're all good or better, and since it came out, What Are You On (which houses "Crystal Queen") has shifted from an initial "meh" to being possibly my favorite. I think generally speaking you need to live with the albums a while before they sink in; they come from that place of resigned melancholy that tends to resist immediacy, maybe.
but I also don't think he's generally going for the knockout effect--something more subtle than that.

The Johnnys are, surprisingly, dropping a new one next month. Their debut Let's Johnny Out of Town made my top 5 last year so I'm pretty excited.
