I woke up this morning to an e-mail from the state department.

What, you say? I WAS FUCKING ACCEPTED INTO THE FREE, 8 WEEK INTENSIVE LANGUAGE PROGRAM IN RUSSIA. WHAT? ONLY 16 PERCENT OF APPLICANTS WERE ACCEPTED?

So I don't have to go on that paid program I've been saving up for for a year and a half?
And I'm the only one from my school to ever be accepted, ever?

So I'm smart, I write a great application essay, I'm temporarily rich, and I'm going to be fucking AWESOME at Russian by the end of the summer?

And going for a language / area studies / law grad school program, you say this program is good as gold?

I'm in love with everything. I am going abroad for the first time. I am going to be good at Russian. It is going to be free.

Thanks guys! I was so excited this morning when I read the e-mail that I did a little run / dance / kick a desk really hard by accident and I ended up breaking my little toe. it was epic. Nobody knew what I had been screaming about and suddenly the happy screams went to pain and "OHHHHHH OH OH OHOH OHHHH OUCH."

...I'm going to be a hot mess in Russia.I can't wait!

Congratulations! Do you know where you'll be going?

not yet! there are four possible cities. All smaller ones! and the average high is in the mid 70s for all of them in the time I'll be there. I'll find out more information about all of that soon. Right now I'm writing thank you e-mails to the professors that recommended me and sending a withdrawal e-mail to my back up program. I'll KEEP those 5,000 dollars, thank you very much.

Things that keep getting better: My school requires study abroad, and you get a 1,200 dollar travel stipend to help out with it. Given that my program is free, I will get a 1,200 dollar tuition reduction instead. Mo. Money.
