Aufgang - ST
I read about this somewhere. For whatever reason the description of somewhat classical piano with drums seemed interesting. I musta been drunk when I thought that was a good idea as on reflection it really isn't. And this music is fucking deplorable.

Electric Eels - Agitated.
As this song is the aural equivalent of huffing petrol I'll likely forget Aufgang even exist by the end of the song. Hopefully.

Been enjoying the new Bettie Serveert album this evening:

This comes after tearing through the rest of their discography this morning and afternoon. Palomine is so good it's ridiculous.

Maura Johnston just raved about them on NPR. I had no idea who they were, and suddenly I was barreled through with sweet guitar pop.

Find Palomine with a quickness!

Cool that they were mentioned on NPR. They always always always get overlooked.

I can't fathom it today, but when Palomine came out around 1995, I was insisting to everyone that Bettie Serveert was the next big thing. I probably read it in Rolling Stone or something; that and Jawbreaker's Dear You were slated for multiplatinum explosions, I thought.

I can only imagine what a failure I'd be as an A&R guy; "Press Release: The Frogs signed to DGC for a $3 million advance, Tobin Sprout hired as in-house song doctor."

Bonus track #3: in-studio banter

"Guys, I really think you need some nice la-la-la backing vocals when you hit the line about running out of butter and assfucking one another raw, it'll provide some nice melodic counterpoint. Here, let me play you this old Guess Who b-side to give you an idea of what I mean."
"That's great, Tobin. Would you mind reading that passage from Naked Lunch about the twelve-year-old boy out loud while we smoke a little crack? For inspiration, you know."

Vic Chesnutt "Mighty Monkey"

Vic Chesnutt was so hilarious that it feels like he'll always be alive - "The chick who runs the pony ride/We call her Catherine The Gross"

Fishbone - In Your Face

Right now, I'm thinking I do like this a little more than Truth & Soul, but it's a tough call and I'll need to listen to both albums several more times.

I tell you, though, you don't expect a tune like "Cholly" to share space on the same album as a track like "Iration."

So long have they been confused
And their faces are twisted with the pain of living

That's a beautiful line, right there. That's powerful stuff.

Also, I love how he pronounces the "w" in "sword."

Iration was on the "It's a Wonderful Life" EP not In Your Face AFAIK.  Or am I misunderstanding what you're saying?  It is a beautiful song though.

I downloaded the version of In Your Face that I just listened to. So who knows. Maybe a later reissue appended some extra tracks?
