Watching Non Westernized Movies and Talking Them Up

Man, over the last year I've become super bored, and semi-intolerant of American/European cinema, especially art house cinema. To fill the gap I've gravitated toward Korean/Thai/Japanese/Chinese films. I doubt I'm the only one sick of this American/European shit, and for the rest of 2012 I'm gonna avoid it and reboot my tolerance levels.
Tonight I watched:
The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate directed by Tsui Hark. I guess there are a series of these films.
Pros: The villains are great. A pack of eunuchs run the East and West Bureaus and are incredibly corrupt. They are sort of the CIA/FBI of the Emperor's government. The West bureau has some especially interesting villains. The eunuch with the black mask and the two swords was daunting and the main villain of course, who breaks his sword into pieces with his hand and throws them at people. He's also wearing makeup and never breaks a sweat as he does extraordinary things.
The special effects are crazy. I think a lot of it was shot in 3D so the wire work kung fu, and blazing knife tosses would probably be especially wow-inducing if I saw it in a 3D movie theatre.
OK, at one point the two main rivals fight attached to a chain within a sand storm that is set to reveal the ruins of a Mongol Temple every 60 years. Yep.
Cons:
Subplot subplot subplot. There were so many subplots. I don't understand some of it, there were so many.
