I gave last track honors to "By the Time It Gets Dark" by Yo La Tengo. Gah.

If I ever got married, it would pretty much have to include playing "Favorite Thing." Then someone would probably get the track wrong, "Unsatisfied" would come on, I'd start humming along, and I'd have to be all "wait! no! oops!" as she looked at me with tears in her eye.

x-posted; I know the feeling ("but I began my first mix for you with 'I'm in Love With a Girl,' come on, how can that glimmer in your eye ever disappear!?"), but don't torture yourself, davy. there are women out there who will appreciate both YLT and you, no question about it.

I'm shooting a couple sessions for http://www.coachhousesounds.com/. It's basically like Daytrotter or any of the other come-play-music-for-our-website places, but the guy who does the booking manages to get a pretty unbelievable lineup of talent and it's always pretty awesome. Last time I was up there, I did a single camera with a free jazz duo that was pretty unbelievable. Like most creative enterprises, it's not like it's going to pay my bills, but it's good experience at being a DP and some decent networking while I get my shit together.

And I mean, ideally, I'd like to turn this into an enterprising freelance business, shooting high quality high def for websites (websites that would, say, pay me to travel and hire an assistant... it's a pipe dream, I know) but the problem, particularly with the music industry, is that it's an industry of individuals with no money trying to profit off other individuals with no money, so it's hard to turn that sort of thing into a living. Le sigh.

- my internet is down, and they can't come fix it until Saturday. this throws my whole framework for a loop.

-/+ there are at least five coffee shops within two blocks of me, so clearly this isn't keeping me offline.

+ I actually got a ton of work done today, so maybe I'll do the same tomorrow and Friday. the internet is basically my worst enemy, but I can't imagine going without it.

I find that even though there's still a fair amount of dicking around on the internet, I always get a huge amount of work done at coffee shops. I just wish I could take my editing shit with me.

yeah--I mean, clearly I'm still futzing around here, but only in between grading quite efficiently.

also

+ nearing the end of a massive grading marathon

++ once I'm in the clear, just one more huge binge at the end of the semester and I am in the clear, with drastically reducing grading duties for the foreseeable future, which is nice because this is far and away the worst part of my job, even worse than having to occasionally tuck my shirt in.

+butter lettuce, radish, and arugula salad with lemon-garlic vinaigrette
+ribeye steaks and roasted potatoes with truffle salt
+chocolate-coconut cupcakes
+baby is fed, bathed, napped, and dressed

+made huge to-do list!
+crossing things off the to-do list!
-I am watching Lifetime Movie Network while doing so, what is wrong with me
-laptop has begun emitting worrisome noise.

Bernard, I know people who would like, put a swing or a bouncy baby chair or something in the bathroom just so they could jam a shower in there somewhere

The robot baby tenders come with either curly fries or onion rings.  ...  We can do mozzarella sticks as a substitution, yeah, but it's two dollars extra. ... okay.  And to drink?

Bouncer, and then later Bumbo, on the bathroom floor were my goto shower solutions for about a year. Now he's a toddler, but not quite up to standing in the shower with me it's hopeless - if I'm on my own, I don't shower. Actually, I have the ring sling I take to the pool, could probably put him in that and shower with him...

I'm drinking coffee and sitting down to do some work. I wish I was drinking, but stylesheets and booze don't mix, in my experience.
