Well, I'm doing alright. I am doing a second master's degree right now, because the first one doesn't seem to have stuck. I moved into a great new place a couple months back, and am currently engaged in a bit of an apartment beautification project, which is impressive for me, as, for example, the paint job in the hall of one apartment I lived in for four years never got beyond the primer stage because I didn't really have enough interest to actually paint. But the current project has the benefit of being funny, and that makes all the difference. Stay tuned, I'll post pictures when it's ready.

Now I'm sad that we're not neighbors because I LOVE painting walls. Seriously. Congratulations on the new place, and good luck with the school thing!  Heart

The large bottle of the Emperial IPA (8.9% ABV) is empty. Time to open something else.

edit: also, you should be on Twitter so I could know these things!

I wonder if there's a way to get Stone Ruination at a discount. Seriously. I can't keep spending almost $20 for six beers, but really, it's the best beer.

I did buy limes, so maybe it's a good time to switch to gin and tonics. Know that part in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where they talk about how every planet has some variation on gin and tonic? I love that.

This thread feels alive again. I don't have much of interest to contribute; I am drinking my dad's MGDs, though.

Woo! Heart

It's the part of Fast Times at Ridgemont High where they play "American Girl" by Tom Petty. I love that song.

edit: Actually, maybe I'll just start up iTunes and play that song on repeat in the background. Why not?

Is our BT still around?  He's awesome.

I should probably just check the earbuds thread for myself.

Third playthrough. Still a great fucking song.  Also, you really should get an xbox.  (Or I should get a PS, but that's not likely to happen because I've been coveting a bigger television and I can only buy one toy at a time. I just bought a Magic Trackpad thing for my iMac. It's pretty cool. I always had troubel with the mouse on this rather large iMac screen, so the new thing is actually useful. I sort of hate how they call it "magic" though, because really, it's just technology and not magic. Also, it didn't come with an apple sticker.)

Why aren't we Twitter friends, then?! fearandwhiskey.

The Southern Tier 2xIPA is not quite as excellent as Ruination, but it's cheaper.  There's  a mouse living in my house. I just saw it, but can't really do anything about it now.

I am disgustingly low on booze in the house. Thank god I at least have a bottle of cheap whiskey.

I put as much rum from the downstairs windowsill as would fit in a plastic cup I found down there (it is not a 16 oz. plastic cup, it is less).

B&B comes in a single bottle nowadays, right? Are there other things like that, not counting like newfangled "mixers?"

Blunted, buzzed, feeling better about my life than a little while ago. I don't mind self medicating this way, I do the same with celexa and klonopin. Woot.

You can self-medicate with SSRIs? I thought they were like long-term things, where self-medication to me is more of a cheap, quick-acting treatment for something that bothers you right now.

B&B has been in a single bottle for decades.  I don't see the point, though.  It makes more sense to get a bottle of Benedictine, a bottle of higher-quality brandy, and mix according to personal preferences.

Other than B&B... I think Cointreau Noir is explicitly Cointreau mixed with cognac.

Next week sometime I'll have to migrate this to the pets thread. It really belongs in the interior decorating thread, but I don't think we have one.

So my apartment has a large but nonfunctioning fireplace. The fireplace, counting the stone bricks and mantle, is about six feet wide and five feet tall. Since it stands as a monument, basically, to not me being able to light a fire there, it was a bit of an aesthetic sinkhole. Therefore I am reclaiming it for another purpose:

I actually found the fish tank on the street (and had to walk it three blocks home balanced precariously on my bicycle). Iit's totally the perfect size - about two feet by two feet by one foot deep, which is a somewhat unusual shape for a regular aquarium, but pretty much exactly the right shape and size for a firequarium.

I'll put some fish in there next week, I'm told I should let the water settle for several days before adding them. I'm not particularly keen on fish per se, but I think it will end up looking pretty awesome.
