Heh! I was going to post that here before I left work. It's pretty great, what with the thing from a couple of weeks ago and all.

What is it about cartoonists gradually transforming into gnarly right-wing trolls?

Well, the life-sucking Female Void takes a lot out of them, I hear.

So amid all this DC reboot hoopla is the announcement that Valiant is relaunching. I have fond memories of sinking all my lawnmowing money into Magnus: Robot Fighter, Rai and the Future Force and Solar: Man of the Atom.

I'm halfway through this right now and loving it.
Maybe it's old news to this thread, but I had no idea comics were so vilified back in the day.

Anyone (thinking mostly about Nog, maybe Dave?) read Batman: Earth One? I really enjoyed it quite a bit. Generally speaking the last thing the world needs is one more Batman origin story, but this one was handled so well, and with such a fresh approach, that it was totally worthwhile. I really loved the changes that were made--both subtle, such as being able to see Batman's eyes, and those with pretty big ramifications, like Martha Wayne being an Arkham and Alfred being a totally bad ass military guy. It's kind of too bad that the Earth One books are only going to be published every once in a while, rather than in perpetuity like Marvel's Ultimate imprint, because I would read the shit outta these, and they'd be the perfect way for me to get back in to reading comics (though it does seem with the whole New 52 stuff, I wouldn't have much catching up to do).

I gave up on comics because there's no legacy at DC for them to draw on when they treat women in tights as shittily as they do anymore. They can't be like "Well, this is a character that blah blah blah and we didn't make the decisions," after rebooting the New 52 universe and still being anti-modern.

Yeah, I haven't been following things closely, but it really seems like that's the case. Fucking major bummer.

hey nerds...
i've been doing some promo stuff for a small book publisher and one of the new releases is a graphic novel. i'm not much of a comics guy, so i'm not very familiar with the scene.
any favorite sites/blogs/publications/whatevers? sometimes a google search doesn't quite lead me where i need to go.
thanks!

The Comics Journal does reviews sometimes. My two go to sites are the Beat and The Comics Reporter.

Is that useful?
