I stupidly missed Jolie Holland when she came through here a bit ago. Still kicking myself over it!

Matthew Sweet has a new record AND it's the 20th anniversary of
Girlfriend
, so there's a tour, and I can't decide where I should go see him AND if I should pay an extra $40 to meet him in order to fulfill 13-year-old me's dreams, and to talk about our cats.

I wouldn't feel right meeting him without incomprehensible anime being projected all around us

Did you hear him on the Comedy Bang Bang Podcast a month or so ago? Link here :

If anyone was planning to see Throwing Muses in NY on Sunday (and you should!), Kristin has just put this on Twitter:
just found out we're going on very early at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC Sunday night...no opener, so we play at 9:00

So the choice for tomorrow night is between Bill Orcutt and Aluk Todolo... Both shows are within striking distance from the dead pigeon art thing so it should just depend on what shape my belly is in... right now I'm leaning towards orcutt.

Tonight, I am seeing They Might Be Giants for the first time ever. They have been one of my favorite bands for about half my life. Probably longer if I'd been introduced to them earlier. I can't describe how excited I am.

I am seeing Braid! And the Smoking Popes! In December! I never saw Braid when they were actually a band, so I am a little nervous about how depressed I am going to be re: old people, but unlike every concert in the past six months that I have thought "hey I should go to that" about I actually went to the Pabst box office and
bought tickets
yesterday.

How were they? Never seen them live but always wanted to. Closest I've come was
seeing them cover "Tubthumping"
for the Onion's A.V. Club. Possibly my favorite cover of the series - and the only time I think I've liked Chumbawumba.

Not keen on They Might Be Giants, but that video did lead me to find Of Montreal ripping up 'Fell In Love With A Girl' which led to a bit of a mosh frenzy in the middle of the living room from my children, so thanks for that!

Dude! I meant to respond to this earlier: how was it? Even when I've seen the shows right before a new album comes out (or, in the case of the albums that came out during the period I wasn't paying attention to them, after) and I don't know most of the songs, the shows are fun as shit for me. They are a band that I will never ever tire of.

So there is some real good stuff coming up, what with the Flying Nun 30th anniversary month shows. But I have so little money and I'm so socially phobic at the moment I think the Clean is the only one I'm going to try and make it to, especially since their shows in my experience have always been ace.
And then Guitar Wolf in December, oh yeah!

Hey Davy! 2 shows at the 40 watt!
I might be going to both DC and Chapel Hill. Might also try to get into one of those Athens shows. Bus trip?

How about that. I was on the fence about whether or not I'd go to Atlanta to see him. Guess I just got pushed off the fence.

I'll let yall know if I decide to take the plunge for Athens. I've never been there and a good friend from highschool/college lives there now. Would like to see her and the city.

I spent an afternoon wandering around there once and I really liked it. So many trees and there's a place that is a sports bar
and
chinese restaurant.
