Blue, blue, electric blue, that's the colour of my room where I will live! except in my case I substitute 'shoes' for 'room' because it's true

When I was a young'un, at the gym we played ChangesOneBowie and ChangesTwoBowie to death, and for some reason - I think it's because it lays into a groove and maintains it - I had always thought "Sound and Vision" was a really long song. I remember being really surprised buying my own copy and playing it at my house to find out it's only, like, three minutes long. That is my memory of "Sound and Vision". The End.

"Sound and Vision" is one of the best songs I've ever heard. My favorite Bowie track by leaps and bounds.

Um, there are too many great Bowie songs for me to be able to agree to something like that for myself, but it is for sure a great tune. Although I think that the eight minute version that evidently only ever existed in my feverish fourteen year old imagination was even better.

Sound and Vision is a great song for sure but when a song like Life on Mars? exists--or hell, pick damn near any song on Hunky Dory--it's not going to be my favorite.

I was listening to Heroes again the other day, and it struck me just what a weird-sounding song that is, with this wave of guitar noise and Bowie yelping over the top. That might be my favourite, but I agree with Jim that Hunky Dory is his magnificent octopus.

Man, I love the track 'Heroes'. Back when I worked retail occasionally 'Heroes' and 'Lido Shuffle' by Boz Scaggs would make it onto the in-store music rotation. Their obvious superiority to everything else on those playlists couldn't be more pronounced, which adds to the charm of both of these songs.

Heh. When it found out it was Boz Scaggs who made all the songs I couldn't stand at work every day, I wanted his blood!

I can only assume you never actually listened to any of those songs. It's disco, but it'll rip your face off.

Yeah, same here.

Also, Jim and Nick are right - Hunky Dory is awesome.  It certainly has the highest play:skip (or enjoy:ignore) ratio of any of his albums.

But I was brought up on Man Who Sold the World, so there's that.  I am totally in love with the arrangement of All the Madmen, and Black Country Rock is the most wonderfully silly-bombastic, hip-thrusting Bowie song there is.

EDIT: I think it's really Mick Woodmansey's drumming that makes that album for me.  Like, I think it far outshines his drumming on Hunky Dory or Ziggy Stardust, and I mean, birth of glam rock and all.

this song in my head is complicated/made more ridiculous by two things:

I listened to that whole fucking album at the gym last night. WHAT. IT IS A GOOD THING TO LISTEN TO ON THE SPIN BIKE I DON'T CARE IF IT'S AS IF SOMEONE IS PISSING ON THE GRAVE OF PROG ROCK OR WHATEVER.

Consider how Jordan Catalano looks now:

No, I tried. The man at this website here once had good things to say about Boz Scaggs, so I gave it a shot and it was bad.

I had

"WE BUILT THIS CITY, WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROCK AND ROLL"

all morning, and then the 10 year old came home singing

"You can't stop the music...nobody can stop the music" until I told him to STFU which seems to've cured him, at least.
