ten to twelve middle-schoolers singing it in a lifeless drone in the basement of the Orthodox church.
Now I've got "Prayer of St. Francis" stuck in my head, thanks

Is the "Prayer of St. Francis" the same as his "Canticle of the Creatures"? Cuz man, that's pure animism.

Oh wow, I was jsut coming to post in this thread and it's all ready for me!
I have HHParry
I Was Glad
doing annoying little circles in my head, thanks to a frind linking to it on fb. Mostly just the opening bars, then jumping to the five fat vaginas, and then to 'plenteousness'. It's very annoying.
I know nothing of this Canticle of the Creatures or Prayer of St Francis though.

this song has been haunting me all week:
daniel my brother, you are
older than me
do you still feel the pain
of the SCARS that won't heal
your eyes have died
but they see more than I
DANiel you're my STAR....
I even made up an alternate version all about my cat in the shower the other day. I can't remember all of it but it was like "muna my kitten, you are yonger than me, do you still scratch your butt, for the fleas you can't see..."

OK, so I know it's my own fault for having kids, but why do children's TV shows have to have such earwormy fucking theme songs? WTF is up with that. Do the minds behind them have no pity? Except for the Bob the Builder song (which rocks enough that there's an entire album of Neil Morrissey &c singing Bob-related songs) they're all really fucking annoying.

When I was very small, I had a tape of songs that were sung as though by the mascot characters from Sea World. To this day I remember most of them because of how wormy they were. But it's probably just because kids love repetition.

Clare, as a mother, I'm sure you've noticed the propensity of little tiny babies to dance to commercial jingles, right? The recipe for making a baby/young child like a song is to make it extremely simple, yet extremely blatant. There's something about music and child development that results in children under 7 years old not really being able to pick up on subtler nuances of melody, which is why a chorus of three year olds will sound like a bunch of babies yelling in rhythm, but won't really follow the tune as such. Sometimes this is not true of kids, but those kids who pick up on subtleties of music at a young age are prodigies, and that sort of thing is unusual. So for a song aimed at kids to work, it has to be the kind of thing that will totally destroy a grownup's brain. Sort of like the way a dog whistle sounds super quiet to humans, but is louder than god to a dog? It's like that. If that makes sense.
Oh, and on a related note, I have to post
this

I have "I think I'm gonna kill myself" by Elton John stuck in my head. Why didn't tipper gore take issue with that song?

I didn't know this song even existed. Thought you were joking until I googled it. I read the lyrics and found them rather repugnant. I'm guessing Tipper Gore didn't take issue with it because it's a song that's based around mocking suicidal teenagers for being self-absorbed assholes, and what old person doesn't think that teens, even depressed ones, should be taken down a peg or three at every opportunity? Seriously, I'll bet people like my dad thought that song was HILARIOUS.
EDIT: Then again, the song's 40 years old, so maybe everybody had forgotten about it by the mid-80s.

It's a pretty good song.
Also, thanks, I hadn't put

I never really paid attention to the lyrics but I can totally see that it's mocking suicidal peeps. I had that goofy sounding chorus in my head all morning regardless. His voice is like a clown.

Is it worse to make light fun of self-important teenagers who threaten suicide, or to indulge their notions that suicide is a heavy, important statement?
