Houston's Country Legends 97.1 is a delightful mix of Johnny / Merle / Willie / Kris etc, cheeseball Nashville late 70s-80s quasi-country balladry, and a whole boatload of the mentioned early to mid-90s country.  It's nice to have a radio station where I know all the lyrics to nearly every song in their rotation.  I only dislike it when they start playing Randy Travis.

Also, Dick, Love You Like the Holler is pretty solid.

Always read the first verse of that song as an aw-shucks passive-aggressive diss of the R&B tradition.

I think it's redeeming quality is authenticity. A very specific section of the population even knows what a holler is!

Hey that Country Legends station is the fuckin real deal. Heard some old school Mickey Gilley, Patsy Cline and fuckin I've Got Friends in Low Places all in like a 20 minute span earlier tonight

Augh, you guys. I'm working on collecting and editing material for a mini-magazine in the style of Banned In DC documenting the punk scene in RVA in the 70s/80s. And I just looked at a couple photos of the band The Exploited standing in a club bathroom somewhere in Richmond in the mid-80s. And there was a fucking racist graffiti slogan written on the wall above one of their heads, and now I have "White Power" by Skrewdriver stuck in my head. This is the worst earworm EVER.
