A new thread for people who make music and play in bands!
Anyway, tonight was the first time Dear Astronaut played together in over a month, and it sounded good. Pretty sloppy, but good. I'm going to miss this band a fucking lot. I actually cried a little bit driving home from the practice space. I don't know.

So this is a little nothing, I set up TATNA (Today and then Never Again) West hung over as fuck and with a ukulele as my only functioning instrument. The take sucked, so I just filled it up with the awful death digital reverb on audacity. Pictures of TATNA West included.

Man, I so wish I had the wherewtihal to attend...I'm bummed to miss that.
I'm proud to announce that I'm working on two new records! The one for my usual outfit is written and we begin recording next Friday. I think it will contain the best things I've ever written.
The other is a pen-pal-recording kinda deal with a friend of mine who's currently attending Harvard, "The Labors of Sisyphus". We're making an interstellar concept country album. This one's still in the writing phases.
After the last two months, I need to stay busy with this stuff so badly. I'm excited.

I am not making original music but I taught myself Behind Blue Eyes the other day and am in the process of learning The Rain Song, which I am going to feel SO AWESOME about mastering whenever it happens. It's a bit of a step up in geetar-playing for me, doing a mainly instrumental piece.

Whether or not it's the same song you're talking about, this got me to pull Sunny Day's "Rising Tide" off the shelf.

Let's put this in perspective, shall we?
Australian Prime Minister swears on live TV

I had a whole moment of "OH YEAH? WELL..." followed by some Youtube searches and what I learned was that it's pretty hard to find American politicians, even the notoriously potty-mouthed ones, swearing on live TV. Even Biden's "big fucking deal" is barely audible.

Former PM, GI. I don't think our current one is up to public swearing yet.
Tony Abbott (now leader of the opposition) said "shit happens" in a TV interview. Can't find it on youtube but it was reported in the papers...
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/abbott-swears-s-happens/story-e6freuy9-1111114001074
We generally have a much more relaxed attitude to swearing than the rest. But that's not music...

Michael Nylander once said shit on a nationally broadcast hockey game on a Saturday afternoon, but I don't think anyone was watching but me. He was talking about giving the interviewer shit about something from back in the old times.

Well, that kind of thing happens all the time in sports, doesn't it? Or at least "all the time" for a country with many prudish and easily-mobilized letter writers. I seem to remember some kind of flap about a few fleeting expletives uttered after some manner of championship a few years ago. So much so that the Supreme Court told the FCC to ease up on punishing networks for it.
Actually, I'll be interested in seeing how the latest prime time season works out now that the FCC's ability to fine the shit out of networks has been ruled unconstitutional. I doubt it'll be some kind of free for all, but it'll be interesting to see how far the advertisers will allow networks to push the envelope and whether or not anybody gives a shit what Parents TV Council or whatever thinks.

"Great job kyle! When's the next time your playing live?
"Oh I don't really have any shows booked"
"Hah, well that's okay. You've got you're whole future..."
"I got the whole fuckin wor....oh...."
