For sure.  Sitting in the room and listening to Randy mix just the drums on Witkin is an experience I wish more people could have.  Shit was like listening to a giant man kick a building over.

We did scratch vocals on the tracks we recorded a few weeks ago, and it's finally in a listenable state.  Next up: adding lots of guitar tracks, some bass here and there, extra percussion, a bit of keyboard, and backing vox.

Strangely, the songs we were most ambivalent about performance-wise ended up sounding the best.

Man, my interests simply do not align at all with those of other guitarists.  Like, I love talking shop about music, but not with other guitarists.  Am I the only asshole on earth sick of hearing about Jimi Hendrix's "tone"?

Yeah, over there if it's not aluminum and running into a Traynor we seriously couldn't give two shits.

There's a certain type of musician that is the dullest person you will ever meet. Not dull as in stupid, but dull because they are only interested in music and only talk about music. You can't have any other kind of conversation with them because they are completely uninformed about anything else in the world.

They don't even talk about music, though.  They just talk about "tone."

Nothing wrong with talking about tone, though. I mean, I like tone.

In semi-related news: I really fucking miss playing music.

Mum told me to look out for a mountain dulcimer in the post. I am simultaneously hell of excited and rather bemused as to why she is buying it.

Crazy fun show last night!  Played with this instrumental band from Alabama called Hail the Titans and with a couple local metal bands: Order of the Owl and Demonaut.

Man, it is satisfying as hell having a metalhead call your set "fucking sick" from the stage.

Leopold & Loeb is back in the saddle starting tomorrow.  Writing a new song, calling it "Sighthound."

Rehearsed!  Sounded good!  Didn't fully learn anything new yet, but nailed down some cool new bits in older songs.

If you are in Chicago, you should be made aware of this.  We're playing Saturday!  Early though, 'cause our drummer works evenings.

My brother's other band, Brother Hawk caught a local blogger's attention.

They start recording a proper album at Nick's house tomorrow.  Guys, you really oughta check this demo out--they are fucking phenomenal.

Maaik, MIC is in Atlanta, right? Forgive me if this is forward, but would you guys have any interest in doing a show with a bunch of left-field instrumental band playin Nebraskans in the Atlanta area on Wednesday, August 3rd? We have been in talks with someone from Chapel Hill for that day since late April and we seem to be really getting nowhere with them and tour starts a month from yesterday. I hadn't even really thought about Atlanta until this afternoon, and was all "Mice in Cars!" I suppose this is short notice by now but if its a possibility and you guys are interested I think it would be a lot of fun. At any rate, I'd love to get the chance to see you guys play someday.

Also, we have gobs and gobs of pedals that we like to talk about and neither of our guitarists sound like or even respect Jimi Hendrix!

Hey man, I'm not sure if we're all available for that date, but it's good that that is a Wednesday night.  Get in touch with this dude named Drew and this woman named Tracey.  Drew books shows at this place called the East Side Lounge on Wednesday nights and Tracey manages this place called the Music Room which is the basement of a pizza joint.  Let 'em know I sent ya.  Hopefully I'll see you in town!

Fuck. My life has been super-hectic lately, Augo, and I feel like I've been forgetting about everything that isn't RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE AT ALL TIMES, but if you still need a Richmond date just say so and I'll see what I can make happen.

Thanks Maaik! I'll email them tonight...If your band becomes available and you're all up for it, let me know.

Andrew- no worries at all; busy happens. We've been shuffling around our east coast dates, trying to take shows that are there and filling in the gaps after that. If we played Richmond, it would now be Friday, August 5. We have a guy in D.C. who says he's looking for a show for us on that date, but I think I'd honestly prefer to do Richmond or Baltimore. So if you think of it and could talk to some locals that you know or something, you can hook them up with me at jonathon.bear at gmail. If you don't think of it, I understand completely. Thanks either way!
