Thanks, y'all! I'm really excited about my guitar playing, 'cause this is unlike anything I've done before. Not that it's like crazy complex or something, but it's not just doomy riffs played with power chords, you know? Anyway, in general, really really excited about this band and the songs we're writing.
Zach - I sympathize with your position, but I think any lobbying on its behalf would fall on deaf ears--singer is not in to metal.

Buried Inside-style screams.
Or Burial-type pitched-up RnB samples.
Bad jokes aside, I liked it too, jeb. Nice one.

a while back i made up some songs for my friend who was gettin married and it was a hit so a gal asked me to make some songs for her pre-adolescent son who was really into it, and wants to play basketball at some ivy league school. i think i was supposed to be all funny and positive about that. months later, i finally have a bit o' time, so i blasted some shit out. i'm link it on mediafire. shit is kinda radioactive to norms and i should get some amusement out of it. i made 8 copies, and my printer was out of ink, so each cd insert features a tube spilling out a meat liquid and it's in petrifying colors, all warholian, because the ink keeps getting fucked. here is a link!
http://www.mediafire.com/?yj56nkfhzn3ia1u
i'd like to thank thermo for loaning me the last two tracks. when basketball (electric refrain) starts pulling in the cash-ish, i'll give him 80%

So my band is playing with Deleted Scenes tonight. I'd not heard of them before, but apparently they're doing all right for themselves. Starting to get more excited about this show than I was initially.

I keep seeing that name (Deleted Scenes) artound on music sites, reviews and whatnot. Even Pitchfork reviewed them a week or two back I think.
It always catches my eye because of the seminal Caretaker double LP 'Deleted Scenes, Forgotten Dreams' and the mp3 blog that took its name from that.
edit: moreover, have a great concert, davy! and remember us when you're famous.

Not sure what considerations go into band names, but I'd call you The Shock Tubes.

Thanks, Jim!
We're actually called Lamb's Legs. I'm still not 100% on it, but the other guys seem to get a kick out of it and turned down all my ideas, so.

It's quite a unique sounding name, but is there a case for Lambs' Legs instead?
I like the songs, especially the top one there. I also like the guitar best out of all of it. At one point, it put me in mind of Wilderness actually, whose first album I really liked.

Thanks, Nick! I've never listened to Wilderness--I'll have to check them out--but Wikipedia says they sound kind of like Lungfish, and Lungfish and all that early post-hardcore stuff is definitely one of our biggest influences as a band.
It's kind of funny--I feel like my guitar work here is totally different from what I was doing in Dear Astronaut, and really on a whole these are two very different bands, but both have drawn comparisons to Lungfish.

Oh man, this is fuckin
good.
I like the drumming and the breakdown in this first song here. Excellent noise playing on "Legomaniac's Kiss" too!
MiC is basically done playing shows for the year. We did get together to record a couple songs at the practice space this week. In an ideal world, we'd put it out as a 7", but it'll probably just wind up on the internet like every other broke-ass band.

Man I was just looking at how to do a 7" tonight. I should really get my tape out first but I'm working on a couple pop singles and a man has to dream.
We should all put out 7"s is what I'm saying. LPTJ singles club.

That being said, if anyone wants to kick into the MiC 7" Relief Fund for the Cure, let me know. Operators are waiting to take your call.

I think our 7"s were about $700 for each, 200 copies (I think). We recovered some of that, at least. It's not too bad if everybody in the band throws down. That of course doesn't including the recording costs. Sure feels nice to have a physical object, though!

God, seriously, $700 for 200 copies? I can remember doing 500 copies of a 7 inch for $525 in the late 90s. Have costs really risen that much, or were we just cutting more corners than you were? (Hint: we made the covers ourselves for basically no money)

That does seem really high, even compared to when I looked in to doing a Dear Astronaut 7" a couple years ago.
Edit: Just went over to United's website, and wow, yeah, prices have really gone up, even in the last few years.

Yeah, it was pretty bare bones--the only frill we got was the little hole. Covers were done at Kinkos with fairly heavy card stock. This is why I think it's totally warranted to charge something like $7 for a 7".

In Silly Music Making News: I might be playing in an intra-office band at the 90th Anniversary party of the San Francisco Office of the Public Defender.
The drummer/organizer is one of the office investigators. Before becoming an investigator, he was the drummer from
this British band that I don't know but that apparently sold millions of records
.
PD offices are weird.

Dude, Antero - one of my close friends from high school is a defender in that office. Let me know the date and I'll try to get an invite. Familiar with The Alarm from a couple singles off
Declaration
that were big when I was tween.
I used to work in an immigration law firm as a paralegal so I might run into other folks I know.

Bad memories!!
I went to see The Alarm live when I was maybe 15/16, so about 1984 or 1985! They were very much in the vein of testosterone-fuelled, backcombed, anthemic guitar rock that I was into then (along with early U2 and Big Country, maybe even a little Echo & The Bunnymen).
I also plagiarised the lyrics of 'Third Light' from Declaration for my English class and got an A. Oh, the shame!
