Put it in the secondary fermenter and dry hopped it today!

SG at 1.011. Taking the reading was a *bitch*

It tastes damn good, though! Like a more aggressive Sierra Nevada. Interested to see what that final bunch of Cascade hops do to the aroma.

Thermo, that Auto Siphon thing is key; I can actually see how it'd be an amazingly handy advice in general application, even. Basically just stick it in the fermenter, pump it twice and you've got a siphon going. Also the little complement to it, the siphon valve: you ain't even have to screw with the clamp, just lift the hose out when you want to stop the siphon.

my autosiphon is cracked but I don't have any problem with starting a siphon the old-fashioned way--at least, after sanitizing my mouth with some good brown liquor Smile

So homebrewing is basically yet another excuse to get tanked? I can't see a damn thing wrong with that.

I have an auto-siphon.  It's really satisfying.

Damn, d_p, we're the last two fools not homebrewing. We had better get with it.

Count me out. I figure if I have trouble summoning up the willpower to cook my own breakfast, it's doubtful I'm going to succeed at homebrewing.

Which, forgive my ignorance, looks fucking hard.

I may have gotten D's in chemistry lecture, but I always got A's in lab when I was in college. I am all over this shit. The other huge thing for me is that I could do an unbelievable amount of things with the money I save on beer by brewing it myself.

I'm with Davy on this one. Aldo I don't drink enough beer to justify it these days.

Bugger, my phone is doing a thing so I can't see what I'm typing at all. Hoping for the best with the autocorrect here.

It's possible that the savings have been overstated.

When you've got income like mine, savings of any kind is unbelievable.

My dad tried growing hops for the first time this year!  Cascade and Willamette.  Apparently, they're getting close to harvest-ready, so he's gonna pick 'em, dry 'em, and send them to me so I can brew with them.  Looking forward to it!

sweet!  I've probably used Willamette more than any other hop the past few years, mostly because I'm big on Fuggle and when Fuggle wasn't available because of the hop shortage a couple years ago, Willamette was the closest available substitute.

Got any particular recipes for showcasing it?

If memory serves they're particularly suited to ESBs and pale ales...

not in front of me Greg, db's right though, fuggle is great in English-style ales and willamette does a pretty good job as an American-style substitute.  I've used it in brown ales, ESBs, oatmeal stouts, etc.

but to really showcase it, an APA would be a pretty good bet.  Or even combining the cascade and willamette.  Though I understand the desire to do a single-hop brew

BOTTLED

And yes there are some green bottles in there due to circumstances. Oh well, what the hell.

Really pleased with the color, aroma and taste thus far. Not much sediment in the bottles, either, due to the secondary fermentation and the strategic deployment of some cheese cloth. Will report back in a couple weeks!
