also I drunkenly went to a 24-hour Wal-Mart a few miles out of my way past my house last night because I couldn't bear to go another hour without owning Halo: Reach, even though it was way too late for me to play it when I got home and I barely got any sleep as it is. It's waiting for me at home, lookin all purdy. and to top it off I did end up getting a $20 gift card with it which is pretty cool.

Actually I think I was thinking of JK2 Outcast when I posted that
Actually so was I - I even looked it up then forgot to correct my list.

True story from my time with JK2 Outcast. When it came out I was living across the street from Fenway Park - my windows actually faced the park, and you can see my old apartment whenever they show games on TV.
Anyway one fine spring day I called in to work with the express purpose of playing JK2 all day. I stayed inside through the afternoon, which means I missed the gradual buildup of people filing into Fenway for an evening game. I was playing a tough boss battle on my second attempt through, and when I finally cut the guy down with my light saber - like literally just at that moment - the crowd at Fenway went crazy. Took me a second to realize it wasn't a hallucination.

rough guess at ranking based on hours spent playing:
1. sonic 2
2. goldeneye (half and half single player and multi)
3. mario 64
4. pro evo 4 (all multi)
5. ocarina of time
6. halo and halo 2 (mostly multi)
7. street fighter 4 (all multi)
8. project gotham racing 2 (all multi)
9. gears of war 2 (cooooo--ooooooop)
10. micro machines 96 (all multi)
honourable mentions to fallout 3, halo 3, geometry wars, nba jam, wave race, lylat wars, and what i'm going to refer to as "wrestling games" because singling out just one seems unfair.

i don't know that i could do a list ranked by how much i like a game, though. i think my list shows both that i've had more years in which to play old games and that i spent an awful lot of time playing videogames with my siblings when i should have been revising for SATs and GCSEs. also that i am dangerously addicted to street fighter 4, i guess. i'm not sure how much staying power that one has yet, though.

Coming up with a list will be a Project for me, so this is more of a placeholder, but off the top of my head the Zelda series gets top rank with Castlevania SoTN and the following Game Boy entries pretty high up there too. (This is not to say that I did not also love the NES Castlevanias, including Simon's Quest and also the 3d ones.) I haven't seen Shining Force and Shining Force II mentioned so far, which really both outrank Castlevania for me... Ninja Gaiden, in both its NES incarnations and the current-gen reboot...
This is an impossible task.

Ocarina of Time, oddly enough, probably doesn't sit too high on my list in hours spent since I beat it within a month of its release, and collected everything on the first try. I don't even know where the N64 went, never replayed it for whatever reason.

currently Damian and Max are playing hell out of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, and Ian's entire vocabulary seems to consist of Zelda-related terms. It's a little embarrassing, when in company he goes on and on about power swords and fire temples and shit and I have to tell people, um, he's talking about a videogame. A 3-year-old should not be this obsessed with a videogame.

But he's also learning valuable maritime navigational techniques. Such as appropriate utilization of the Wind's Requiem. Plus there's pirates in there which I bet is normal obsession for a 3 year old.
I mean, really, the game just
happens
to have power swords and fire temples - what kid could resist talking about that stuff? And Zelda is magic.

Also special mention for Elvira mistress of the dark, which I had and which was ducking awesome but I only got to play a few times and something happened to it. It's my long last dream-game.

Get them playing Civ as soon as they're remotely capable and possibly before. I credit that game for the A's I got in every History or Government class I ever took. It's an educational game in disguise.

Actually Damian is interested in trying Civ, he loves RTS games but doesn't like the pace sometimes when it gets hectic, I mentioned turn-based strategy to him and if he'd been a dog his ears would have cocked and his head tilted, he visibly began paying more attention than a near-teenage boy will usually pay to his dumb old dad.

1. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)
2. NHLPA Hockey 93 (Sega)
3. BioShock (PC)
4. Road Rash II (Sega)
5. STALKER (PC)
6. Micro Machines (N64)
7. Toe Jam & Earl (Sega)
8. Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (Sega)
9. The Saboteur (Xbox)
And then, for the last slot, I can't really decide between Metroid 2: Return of Samus for Gameboy, Dead Space for Xbox, or Half-Life 2 for PC.
Also had some good times with Lawnmower Man on SNES.

I don't remember you playing Diablo 2. Was it a college thing?
I kindaaaa want to play morrowind right now.
Did I tell you guys that I re-pirated FO3 after uninstalling and I couldn't get it to work? I tried like 4 different versions. Updated my drivers. Read pages and pages of threads of people complaining about the same issue and it not working.
Basically you click new game and it crashes to windows every single time. So odd because I played it on this PC.

just do an "hours spent playing" list like mine (you can count modern warfare 1+2 multiplayer as one game if you want). favourite games is way too hard.

I saw Braid name-dropped in a lot of reviews for Limbo. Limbo was awesome. I should try Braid.
Was just thinking I should have put a slot on my list for the Koei games I used to play (mainly Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms II on the NES). I sunk a LOT of time into those and remember them as fondly as anything else I played when I was a kid.

Heh! I've heard a lot about Limbo, and would very much like to play it (but I don't think that's possible).
