wish i'd have known that 12 oz. ago, fuck.
but thanks; mostly just banking on a tiny turnout and painless exit, after which i can just lounge around boston and drink more for a few days, possibly with spouse in hand.

I finished shoveling the driveway by six, took a shower, and got right into my jams and slippers. I have no reservations. Solidarity, boss.

Oh shit, as soon as I step out of bed, this hangover is going to come rushing in. But if I don't step out of bed, then how am I going to go watch beer and drink football?

Man, you guys know that old saying? "Liquor before beer, have no fear. Beer before liquor, also have no fear." I'm starting to think it's not entirely true.

A friend showed me a piece of that video on his phone and I was not at all creeped out but now that I have learned that his eyes are not only blinking rapidly but blinking rapidly ONE AT A TIME it's a little weirder somehow.

I've known I'm going to be an uncle for several hours now, but I've thought less about it than where I'm going to have lunch tomorrow. Does it just click when the kid is born like it's supposed to with your own kid, no matter how indifferent you are to kids? This can't be an uncommon position, given that you don't get to decide whether or not to have nieces and nephews.

Where are you having lunch tomorrow? If I was having some really killer fried chicken, that would probably supercede any news about my niece.

I don't know, somewhere Asian, maybe. Oh the possibilities! This is way more exciting than my sister's new ironing board cover or whatever I was talking about.

Nah, it may never click, and that's OK. Or it might. Even as a parent I'm not particularly fond of other peoples kids. I think you should keep referring to it as 'the new ironing board cover'. As for lunch... well, Two Sisters in Dickson is pretty good. Though I'd get a pizza from Debacle, which I haven't done in years.

All-nighters, man.
Pro: my first first-authored paper is a casual co-author review from being submitted.
Con: Emerged from my office and my truck was gone. Got so far as to be talking to the gruff police dispatcher before I remembered that I'd moved it.

Hey, so your first first-authored paper is basically done, and your truck was neither towed nor stolen! That's good - congratulations! Next step: Get some sleep.

yeah, congrats dumbfish, nice work.
for my part, it's 8pm, classes begin at 10am, and I still don't have a syllabus. when you combine my natural deadbeat tendencies with a job that emphasized research over teaching from day 1, I guess this is what you get. now the big dilemma is whether to just shrug and wing it because the lady is allegedly coming over with movies and lust, or find some last-minute discipline. I have a suspicion which will prevail.
further uncertainty on another front: a week in Egypt was spent completely free of gastrointestinal distress, despite some dubious food-consumption decisions, but then I get back to the states and my guts explode today. not sure what that's all about, but I hope it stops soon.
unless it gets even worse, which would mean I could put off the syllabizing for another several days, actually . . .

Hey whit, i hope your guts settle soon.
Whenever I come back here I'm almost paralyzed with uncertainty as to whether I should plough through all the unread threads and comments I've missed in my absence. I hardly ever do, and slide away without posting much, because it seems a little rude not to even bother trying to catch up on everybody's latest news and jizz. How do I solve this?

thanks Dom--not sure how my stomach is doing (one eruption since last post, but then calm), but you'll be pleased to know that on the syllabus front, I've fallen back on my old chestnut Times Square Red, Times Square Blue. it's a great pick in the context, I think, and it also makes things easier for me (except that I still need to place a book order, and that'll be a mess at this point, but so it goes).
and I'd think you could fill in certain blanks on the stuff you miss: porn, Catholicism, class resentment, linguistics, etc

Yeah, you can always drop in saying "hi, what have I missed?" and people will tell you their favourite anecdotes. It's great to see you around.

What have I done???
I've been showing Ellie some selected Monty Python sketches, which she adored of course, but ever since they saw the French castle scene from Holy Grail, both Ellie (7) and Grace (4) are now favouring "I fart in your general direction!" (in bad French accents) as their insult/retort of choice!

That is unfortunate. Though you can take solace in that they did not seize on some of the more naughty bits from this sketch:
though I'm sure it would be just adorable at a family gathering for one of your little ones to bust out with "Drop your panties Sir William, I cannot wait til lunchtime!"

A good friend of mine tells me that she and her siblings used quotes out of Monty Python and Blackadder sketches as the sharp end of the wedge to introduce dirty words into their conversations. Doesn't sound that bad.

I fear my tone has been slightly mistaken for sincere alarm - I actually swell with pride to hear them calling each other 'wiper of other people's bottoms'.
