'dick-check' is also a variant of the 'mic-check' tactic for interrupting speakers. if a dick is speaking, someone calls out "dick-check" and then someone else repeats it and pretty soon the whole group is shouting "dick-check" at the dick until the dick gets down.

I didn't really get a sense of how bad the storms in Ohio were yesterday. Just got texts from multiple friends telling me that one of our best dudes is in a Columbus ICU with broken vertebrae waiting on surgery tomorrow morning. A tree fell on him while he and his girlfriend were hiding from the storm in a ditch. They had to text because cell phones still aren't working. I can't call or send flowers or really do anything except think about old Jason.

He was in surgery for seven hours today. Evidently the ICU staff say he's probably going to be moved out of there soon since he's doing relatively well and will just need to be in recovery from the surgery for the next week. Then months of physical rehab, probably.
Entire situation is completely fucked, obviously, but it warms my heart to know how many of our friends are there with him. There's like an encampment at my best friend's East Side house in Cbus, more than a dozen people staying there and going back and forth to the hospital. I guess they had like ten people in the room with him at one point yesterday telling stories and bullshitting. The nurses seem amazed by all the traffic, my friend Phil says.
