And, I mean, I don't remember anyone  here rushing to Asher Roth's defense with "if he makes these totally-not-strawmen music snobs apoplectic, he must be on to something" and "it takes skill to be that lowest-common-denominator."

For the record, I later heard some of his non-"I Love College" stuff and thought he wasn't too bad. But nothing to get excited about.

The thing that blows my mind about Ke$ha is that I often manage to totally love and totally hate her stuff at the SAME TIME. That's what I've been trying to say this whole time, really, but I'm not getting it across I don't think. Whatever, anyway, that's where I'm at.

What's kind of mindblowing about that guy (his name is Jeremy Villalobos) is that he has now caused two different bands to self-destruct at the height of their popularity by being allegedly a serial rapist. The first one was Wives, who kicked him out mid-tour and turned into No Age. Now Drunkdriver. How dude has stayed out of jail, I don't know.

No. Das Oath formed in 1999 and broke up in 2008. Das Racist are only called Das Racist because it's a pun on the phrase "that's racist!" There are no other Das bands that I know of, unless they're German bands.

I really wish they were called Dass Racist. As it is I can't help but pronounce it like the German 'Das'. About this rapist guy—is the word that he has been doing rapes this whole time, or that he did a certain number of rapes at one point, and allegations about those rapes keep coming up?

Well, as best as I can tell, he did a number of fucked up things during his time in Wives, which is what got him kicked out of that band. But no, I don't think there have been any new accusations since, so at this point the incidents people are upset with him about are all 5 or more years old. Which probably is not something that matters all that much to the people who are upset about it.

Well, as I understand it, it's a pun on the African American English pronunciation of 'That's racist!' So if it's pronounced 'Das', then it is a visual pun on a verbal pun.

As usual, I have no real business posting to this thread because I haven't heard nearly enough new music to make a list.  But I can say that the two albums I listened to more than any other - old or new - this year were Titus Andronicus The Monitor and Superchunk's Majesty Shredding.  I also really liked Bridge & Tunnel's Indoor Voices EP.

Has anyone seen NPR's 50 best-of-the-year list?  It's actually much more diverse and interesting than I was expecting.  I unexpectedly discovered some cool stuff listening to the tracks they've posted (Khaira Arby, Rita Indiana, and a couple of others.)  It's worth a look-see.

i gave it a listen since Andrew repped it and I actually like "California Gurls" [sic]. Turns out, like with oh so many pop albums, the singles are good and the rest is filler.

Also, I think I'm gonna fall in love with Ô Paon's Courses, eventually.
