Really doe, you hear me on that one, right? There's a certain distinction<-->quality corollary when it comes to breweries.

Got a 6 of the Metropolitan Brewing Ironworks Alt.  It's lovely!  The first beer from that brewery that hasn't left me feeling disappointed.  It's pretty much an ideal quaffing beer.

Pollo! Yojimbo! I am currently sipping my new favorite micro, Lagunitas WTF. Bartender swears that's its real name. Sadly, being a peasant, I have no words with which to describe this delicious thing. WTF is in it?

Full disclosure: I nearly died at 2:30 PST today when a contractor's truck slammed into the driver's side of the Prius, totaling it. Had I been going a second slower I'd be dead. So life seems sweeter now, and I'd wager beer does too.

Well, Lagunitas is a brewery that makes many fine beers.  So I'd love to tell you more about it but I need more information.  edit: aha, closer reading shows me you're talking about the Wilco Tango Foxtrot listed below

Here is a list of some of the fine Lagunitas products I've enjoyed

IPA - it's hoppy, it's malty, it's an IPA!
CENSORED - a hoppy red ale
Little Sumpin' Sumpin' - a hoppy wheat ale. Seeing a pattern here? good though
Maximus a double IPA, EXTRA malty with a big hop punch
Hop Stoopid - superduper hoppy
Hairy Eyeball - A strong brownish red ale, caramelly but also a pretty big hop bitterness
Little Sumpin' Extra - an amped up version of the little sumpin sumpin
Little Sumpin' Wild - a version of the little sumpin sumpin using a belgian style spontaneous fermentation
Brown Shugga - a big sweet malty winter warmer, not hoppy at all actually
Gnarlywine - I love barleywines and this is a good one, a big malty boozy kick in the liver with a mild hop presence
Wilco Tango Foxtrot - another strong American style ale, toasty malts, not as hop forward as some of them but still a significant presence of typical citrusy west coast hops
Cappuccino Stout - a big black sweet boozy imperial stout, creamy, some bitterness from the dark roasty malts and the coffee, very tasty, would pour over my honey nut cheerios

They also have a couple other beers I haven't tried, including a Pale and a Pils.

Their Pils is a great this-is-just-a-beer beer.  I get it at Big Star all the time.

The Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale is worthy of note, because it's almost 10% abv but you would never know it from the taste.

Well, I think that in the craft beer world, distinction comes via putting out good beers rather than vice versa.  But in general, good breweries put out good beers, yes.  I don't know that I'd use a word like pedigree but that might just be class rage.  Something I thought YOU would understand.

I don't think I've had their WTF.  I get the Hop Stoopid kind of a lot, though.

And speaking of hops, there's a big IPA fest happening on May 7th in Philly!  I'm excited!

And now for something completely different: apparently Greg Hall, outgoing brewmaster at Goose Island, got drunk at a local Chicago bar last night and, at the bar, filled 2 beer mugs with piss. http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/food/stew/chi-bar-incident-leaves-goose-islands-greg-hall-contrite-20110411,0,7513800.story

And he said Anheuser-Busch wouldn't make him change the Goose Island pilsner recipe.

Lagunitas usually leaves me feeling like I could've spent a couple bucks less and been happier.

But I've only tried a couple.

I have to have a phone conversation in Russian in a half-hour. I think I'm going to drink some beer, so as to make my heart stop this intense thumping and my hands stop this profuse sweating.

Beer is a Good Idea

edit: though I guess vodka is more thematically appropriate, good luck! Smile

Has anybody tried this?

I've been reading about Irish whiskeys this evening, trying to figure out what I want to buy when my tax refund arrives, and it seems like everybody's crazy about this stuff. You read about how it's revolutionizing the field, etc. The flavor notes I've scanned through make it sound delicious, and if I can find a bottle in town for under $60, I just might spring for it.

Is it any good, or is it another overpriced small-distiller underaged whisky that reminds me of vomiting?  We put that stuff in barrels for a reason.

Davy I have a bottle of that at cask strength. It is quite tasty. That price seems high but you would get a nice, distinct whiskey. That I can't remember anything specific about.

I expect I posted about it; if I weren't on my phone or my alarm wasn't about to go off i'd search for that post.

We have a bottle of the Connemara here in the office, I enjoy it quite a bit.  But though it's an "Irish Whiskey" tastewise it's essentially a Scotch that's not made in Scotland.

Freddy--I'll keep an eye out for it, but I second Antero's question

Should I buy a three pack of Westvleteren trappist beers off ebay for 70 dollars? I'm seriously considering it.
