Just got back from a weekend of drankin in missoula, the greatest place in the whole world.

Had a Maibock on nitro and an IPA at the kettlehouse

They've also got a pretty interesting IPA that they aged in bourbon barrels.  I got loads of vanilla but blucas thought he mostly got bourbon.  I think it would be better if it finished a little hoppier.

Dude I wish you'd told me that the greatest place in the whole world was an ITAM Vets' Hall.

There are not many things in the world that a fella can rely on, but I'm glad that one of the things I can rely on is that at least one of the nearby grocery stores will always have Jim Beam on sale for $20/handle.

For me its that Magruders will always have either gordon's or seagrams gin for $13 or less.  I drink at least 3 gin and tonics per day.  Now that my patio potted garden is flourishing, I have them with muddled mint.  Also, Rodman's can always be counted on for a 6 pack of a delicious microbrewery beer for under $8, though recently they've transition from deals on 6pks to deals on flats of 4 6pks, which is less appealing.

I am currently drinking Heaven Hill Bonded... mizuwari style.  It works quite well.  Best way to drink cheap whiskey ever.

I would probably agree. Blind Tiger had Racer 5 on cask a lot last year.

I had the North Coast Oberon knockoff tonight, called Pranqster. Also had a Breckenridge DIPA that was delightful; full of nuggety Centennial aroma and a huge grassy hop bitterness.

I tried a st. pauly girl lager tonight and I liked it. Thought it would be bitter but it was pretty smooth. new beer for the new-ish year.

Just bought a six of the lagunitas shutdown. Hope to drink it between 3 - 6 tomorrow, at a picnic. I anticipate liking it.

I really began taking Oberon for granted when we moved to New York. I know that sounds counterintutive considering you can't get Bells in NY, but once I was there I began to think of Oberon as kind of unremarkable. I forgot that it's almost perfectly balanced and totally, utterly satisfying at the end of a day's work. One of the best American session beers out there.

I miss the breweries in Bend.  Deschutes and 10 Barrel in particular.  Atlanta has depressingly little going on when it comes to brewing.

This place looks promising, and growlers have just started to catch on around here--plus DeKalb Co. is voting on Sunday alcohol sales in November, so there's some hope that maybe we'll get more than just effing Sweetwater around here someday.

Yeah, when I was down in Atlanta I wasn't terribly impressed with the local beers.  You guys do get a lot of good east coast beers that we can't get in Minnesota, though.  And the Porter bar in LFP is as good of a beer nerd bar as any, from what I can tell.

Lately I've been drinking Brooklyn Pennant Ale (Brooklyn just came to Minnesota), which is pretty good and Tallgrass Halcyon wheat, which is a very nice weissbier from Kansas.

And lots of South American wine.

I almost gave that Pennant Ale a shot the other week but I went with their summer brew instead. It was fine, but it didn't really impress me. I don't think any of the Brooklyn beers I've ever had have really impressed me. Just decent beer-tasting beer, is all. Sort of like Anchor. And there's certainly something to be said for that.

Brooklyn's Black Chocolate Stout gets strong reactions-- some love it, some regard it as candy (the gross gandma kind). Beer advocate likes it, apparently. Their Extra IPA was one of the first hopped-to-death beers I had. It's a good example of the type.
I've lately been moving off of hops and onto other stuff, so their brown (and Avery's ) have been making me happy.

The Pennant is perfectly serviceable, but I think Brooklyn is definitely one of the lesser of the prominent craft breweries.

If I'm forced to choose a Brooklyn, I usually go with Pennant '55.

The Local stuff is all pretty great, as are any number of their regionally-available draughts. It's their nationally-distributed stuff that's generally subpar. Kind of like Sam Adams in that regard.

I can drink a Sam Adams with a smile on my face.

Edit: Though it must be said I lost my taste for their Black Lager, which used to be a favorite of mine.

I can drink anything with a smile on my face, but that's quite distinct from it being any good.

I really liked the Sam Adams Noble Pils!  I was rather surprised by this, but it's hella grassy in a very refreshing way.

Yes! I had it first at the bar on my block where they are fond of serving the Sam seasonals, and I can enjoy drinking a number of them even if they aren't my favorite, but that's the only one I've ever then bought a six pack of.
