use carpano antica instead of regular sweet vermouth, you will thank me
+1, or Punt e Mes, that's what I prefer in Manhattans.
Reasonably-priced mixing liquor: Rittenhouse Bonded Rye Whiskey is about $20 and is pretty much incredible. Perfect cocktail whiskey.
Broadening Horizons: other bottles of bitters (Peychaud's, Regan's, anything by Bitter Truth), Italian amaros (Campari and Cynar especially), orange liqueur (Cointreau, Rhum Clement Creole Shrubb), Benedictine, Luxardo maraschino liqueur, get stuff to make proper grenadine...
Recipes: a Boulevardier is 1 1/2 oz rye or bourbon, 1 oz Campari, 1 oz sweet vermouth. That's pretty slick. Monte Carlo is 3 parts bourbon to 1 of Benedictine, with some bitters...
Thanks! I think bottles of both vermouth and Campari are in my future.

Fee Brothers are mostly not worth it - their orange bitters are like orange candy, their peach bitters are overwhelming and sweet. The Whiskey Barrel Aged bitters are okay, but hardly vital. The thing about Fee Bros is that they don't use an alcohol base for maceration, which I think is part of the reason the flavors are comparatively one-dimensional.

In how much time? Cynar's a pretty weak drink.
I don't think there's a limit.

I've resolved that that'll be the next bottle I buy.
Still mightily enjoying this Redbreast though. Didn't have anyone to help me drink it over New Year's. More for me.

I had forgotten about some Groupons I bought awhile ago for some wine buying websites until today, and now I've done some things are there are a dozen bottles of wine headed my way for the low low price of about 23 bucks (including shipping!). I don't know much of anything about wine, and I've never Riesled, but when that shit shows up I should have a pretty full weekend ahead of me.

I got home rather inebriated last night and proceeded to karate chop a rat that was sitting menacingly atop my outside garbage bin off of it...
Kind of awesome but today I feel kinda bad and think the whole episode threw my chi off.

i am so drunk tonight and I felt so bad when i helped the recycling men put my stuff in a truck because they were working and I am still partying by myself. I was salting the driveway like you do when you're leaning a touch at 6.30 so I helped out this one time but I feel bad because I think we might not have given them their holiday money because we are bad lazy people who have trouble remembering two separate groups of helpful guys in the middle of all these disrupted holiday pickups.
Meantime thanks bonus hannah for pointing out the x-files thing. Before that tip, I was a man looking hard for jobs and feeling bad about not finding them. Now I am just a man in his dad's house, living.
edit: this pertains to the netflix. I am sorry to have mixed up the alcohol and netflix instant threads, but tonight for me they are joined.

Agreed! Also: FUCK and DAMN waiting for this phonecall that is important and looks like it might not be happening! I'm going to eat a piece of highly alcoholic fruitcake made by convensive (remember that guy?) which has three different whiskeys in.

life is pretty good when one has vodka and orange juice and bitters, and makes a giant batch of vegan chili, and commences to petting the cats

It's been so long since I got into red wine that I'd forgotten how pleasant it can be. In fact, I'm even thinking it'll be worth the headache tomorrow.

While listening to my friend make boisterous vomit last night and then again this morning, I was trying to recall the last time I was sick with drink. It's been long enough that I can't recall precisely, but probably within the last ~four years. Usually the morning after is much worse for me.
