YES
I also had a few draught Hopslams tonight. The local brewpub has been working the same keg for a FUCKING WEEK because no one in this town has any class or idea of what good beer is. Which I guess I should be somewhat thankful for, but it seems like a goddamn travesty that a barrel of that should go more than 48 hours.
This year's is *excellent* though. So much better than I remember.

Ginger ale and Sailor Jerry and lime juice is all that is in my house. Soon I shall yell at things but I'm not sure what. MAYBE THE THUNDERSNOW.
We had a fast and furious thundersnow

The best local beer bar put a fb update up last night that they had Hopslam on tap, so my friend and I went this afternoon (our regular dept mtg was canceled) and had some. Excellent. I also had a bit of some Schlafly Pumpkin that they had gotten a last bit of, which was surprisingly pretty good for a pumpkin beer—pretty pumpkin-y, but better balanced than most. I only had a sample size of that, which is all I tend to want of pumpkin beers, but I enjoyed it.

Yeah, I've yet to meet a pumpkin ale that I wanted more than 4oz of.
Incidentally, I just had another draught Hopslam. Bunch of fucking savages in this town.

All this talk of thundersnows makes me want one. Sort of.
Today was the last day of a nursing clinical, so I celebrated by self-medicating. Had to use an old prescription, though:

I just realized today that Don and Millie's is just a local burger chain and they're not all over the place. Which is too bad for everyone else, because they have dollar margaritas. I can think of few better ways to spend a Saturday afternoon than spending 6 bucks on a double cheeseburger and chili-stuffed baked potato and another 9 dollars on margaritas.

Chamomile Hot Toddy idea I had this evening: a success. Nothing fancy, just brewed up some chamomile tea and used it to make your standard hot toddy, half a mug of chamomile, a tsp each of lemon juice and sugar, and about 2 oz of bourbon. Delicious.

Not a huge fan of Abita as I recall, but it's been a few years. Have to revisit.
I have a hell of a head cold, and Jim's relation of his toddy adventure got my hankering up something fierce. Only have rye in the house, and that would've been fine, but once I got the kettle going I realized what I really wanted was just to sit back down, so I just had two belts and a few slugs of OJ. Maybe I can talk the missus into making me one.

They don't make anything that will blow your socks off, but they are a good supplier of comfort beer.

Improvised hot toddy, with available ingredients:
2oz rye
1 tbsp honey
3 dashes Angostura
Orange twist
1 cup of Constant Comment, made separately, then added to above
SO GOOD. Strong, but fucking *exactly* what the doctor ordered.

Improvising with the liquor cabinet:
1 1/2 oz reposado tequila
1 oz Cynar
1/2 oz dry vermouth
1 dash orange bitters
Up with a grapefruit twist.
Damn, son. That's really good.

I'm going to Trader Joe's tomorrow to pick up some cheap foodstuffs. Thought I might pick up a cheap 6-pack of Trader Joe's beer I'm there. Any particular variety better than the rest?

Drinking pisco on ice tonight. A cheapo bottle I've had sitting around for ages. But that shit goes down smooth!

They've got three-ish different price points: there's the super-cheap cans that correspond to PBR and whatnot, called "Simpler Times" (here in NYC, I think they're about 3 bucks for a sixer). Those are utter shit and should be avoided.
There's a slightly-more expensive array in glass bottles that are sort of generic versions of different styles, and while I seem to recall them being palatable, I usually don't go for them.
There's also the most expensive kind (here, I think they're seven bucks for a sixer) that include the Mission Street IPA and the Mission Street Pale Ale. The Pale Ale is definitely my favorite out of the various beers I've tried there. I recommend that one!

Yeah, I'd imagine it depends at least in part on which brewery makes it. Who makes which TJs beer (since they certainly don't have their own brewery):
