I am pretty sure he'll approve and appreciate. I mean--on a rather different note and scale, to be sure, and in no need of detracting from the levity and celebratory nature of that post--my father has drinking problems that complicate these things, but I still find it pretty awesome that when I was two he'd take me to the bar and have the bartender give me shotglasses of beer while he drank. A young man looking back values such paternal gestures, I think.

Bullshots are the best! Savory vodka is a thing I had not previously considered!

Boil some beef bullion in 2 cups of water until it's like 1 1/2 cup of water! Add 3 parts vodka to 4 parts bullion water into a shaker with ice, then strain after it's COLD! Season with pepper and salt to taste! Drink that until it is GONE!

You can drink this alongside gouda and cheddar and other cheeses! coldforge can add fancy olive oil to his and I'll add Worstershire to mine! A+, would drink any fucking time!

Hey Jim and/or Antero and/or other-Chicago-area-drunkards:  Have you tried Lion's Pride? http://www.lionspridewhiskey.com/  On the one hand, the short-cut aging thing they've done seems suspect, but the dirty fucking hippie in me loves the return-to-Midwest-grains thing they're doing with the organic millet and oat whiskeys.  I've had some of the rye, and it was quite good, if a bit a light, but I've not had enough rye to trust my palate entirely.  If you or your various sources have anything to report on which variety is their best and/or their most interesting, I'd be glad of it. 

It's priced high enough that this won't be regular-drinking fare for me on any account, and if I'm throwing down change for a glass of something at a bar I'll go up-the-ladder, but the lady likes to have a bottle on hand for certain circumstances, and $50 a bottle for something local and interesting seems about right.  And Blucas/FK, Sr's birthday is later this month (apple/tree), so I'd love an unbiased opinion.  I've also heard vague accounts of other distilleries opening in the city, so if another is better, please let me know that as well.

I've heard it's supposed to be among the best new-make whiskey around.  Haven't tried it though.

Being new-make, of course, it's not a proper liquor cabinet replacement for a traditional bourbon or rye

I'm back on the Lagavulin & soda, and just realized why: I was so pumped to get some Lagavulin a few weeks ago I just took the first bottle I saw, which is apparently some special-issue 100+ proof souvenir. As if Lagavulin needed fucking kick!

Kind of pissed, actually, cuz that bottle wasn't cheap.

earlier tonight I was setting up in my back room getting ready to do some voiceover for a Radio Gen1us mix that will be dropping imminently but my idiot neighbors were kicking some THUMPA THUMPA shit that was rattling my walls.  I was pissed but I resolved to take the matter in stride, pour myself a bourbon, and ruminate a bit before acting.  So I went and poured myself a Woodford Reserve after sadly discovering that my bottle of Eagle Rare was empty, came back into the back room, and the shitty booms had subsided

so basically whiskey makes everything better
