Buck on my back porch last week. Can I call him my pet?
yes yes yes! you have to lasso him/her, keep it tied to a tree out back, and train the tot with treats. not entirely sure where you can find a recipe for deer treats but the local wild animal rescue unit would have a good idea of at least basic nutritional ratio needs. what about a brass bell on a red ribbon around the darling's neck? and a medical tag on a silver choker with a name engraved on it. decker? bluebell? what would you pick?

I had to get Oreo put to sleep, her tumours were too big.
She was a good rat. I gave her all the treats she could eat and made sure she had a good hour long cuddle coma before hand.

The funny thing is I know none of you have actually ever had pets. You can't, according to the Treastile Act of 72.

my friend got me a caterpillar for christmas! It's so cute! It has already eaten half of its dutchman pipe! I hope I am a good enough caretaker to get it to butterfly-hood.

Ashley, I'm sorry about your rat
When I was a kid, we would collect caterpillars and keep them in Cool Whip containers (with air holes!) but never got any of them to hatch. The best things I've had hatch were a couple of praying mantis egg things. Except you get THOUSANDS of miniature mantises everywhere.

The last two days the summer paused for constant rain, and the cat from upstairs has been coming down here to hang out all day. She's as cabin-fevery as I am, and the past half hour has discovered the fun game of mewing plaintively in the hall until I come out to see what's wrong, and then charging around the corner at me at full speed.

Velcro has a heart murmur!
They discovered it during his yearly checkup today. Did Xrays and thankfully his heart isn't enlarged and his lungs are okay. They're comping us an ecocardiogram in a couple weeks because our vet is learning how to use one, and she said Velcro has the temperament to be a good test subject (definitely true). He's pushing 12 now so it's not like it's a huge shock, but still alarming & bummed us both out but good. I'm just glad we can afford the tests.

Poor kitty! If it makes you feel any better, I have a human heart murmur and had an echocardiogram and I'm just fine, so hopefully Velcro will be, too!

aw! Good luck to your kittyman! Stuff like that and most other possible ailments are what scares the crap out of me about the thought of getting a cat.

I am fostering three new rats. They're brothers. They're huge. Their poops are huge.
They're a little skittish but I think in a few days they'll relax.

Yay for fostering animals! I didn't know people fostered rats but I guess it makes sense.

Good job, Caliban, I was just thinking the other day that what you don't do enough of is try to eat small pieces of metal foil so you cut your mouth and spit bloody foam everywhere. That's a really cool way to make our Sunday nights together special, good boy

My response was the same as Greg's. Cats love prams. What more can I say? He's got those Puss in Boots eyes too, very cute.
