My friend has the two most ridiculous beagles in the world. Beagles are great!

I guess the acquisition of a new pit bull is as good a reason as any to go ahead and post. You may remember Nina. The little black one is her new friend, Tank:

She's not for keeps, we're just helping someone find her a home. L wants to turn our house into a dog orphanage.

I think she looks like Bimbo!

Cool dogs. My thing with pit bulls is that they have so much personality. Like, the friendly ones are FRIENDLY. A happy pit bull is like nothing else I've ever seen. You can tell them that you get it, they like you and you like them, but no. They gotta be all, "I haven't licked your entire face yet! I have so much love to give!" In other words, imagine what would happen if nonotyet were a dog.

Yup, that's these two! Nina is definitely a CAPS LOCK sort of dog.

oh man, I hate leaving the cats home alone on a day like today.  I hope they don't melt.

I closed off my living room and bathroom and left the AC on for my guys; while I'm peeved that it's gonna be raising the electric bill, it's supposed to hit 100 today, and I don't want a repeat of last year, when Caliban was visibly panting in the heat.

When I still lived with my parents, I would freeze water in 16 or 20 oz soda/water bottles, and then leave them on the floor with a towel so my ferrets could lie with them and not get overheated.

We have central air here and Hugo sits directly on or in front of the vents. I rubbed his belly last night and it was sooooo cooooold

The cat from upstairs has come for a visit, as she does, and she started batting at my shoes when I walked past, which means she wants to play a game. I had a bubble container on my desk, and so I blew some bubbles for her. Guys, it was the most hilarious thing I've seen in ages. She was so surprised, and when they landed on the carpet she'd sniff them and pop them with her nose, and then jump back snuffling with astonishment. Then she found she could pop them with her paw, and that was great fun. I've stopped now, but she's spent the last ten minutes looking around the edges of furniture and under the beanbag to see where they've gone.

understanding when the game is over is not a strong suit of most cats I've known.

tricky thing about dark wood floors:  they make it difficult to see the cat-gift of a dead cockroach at the foot of the ladder to my bed in the morning.  happily it was dead, and luckily I managed to avoid stepping on it.

the last time I had a cat house guest he walked along the back of the couch to where I was sitting, sniffed my hand and then began hitting me on the head with his paw! I was laughing too hard to make him stop. Then he turned his back to me and started grooming.

That is not a cat, it is a skinny jack o' lantern!

Linus has never ever responded to catnip. UNTIL YESTERDAY. One of our friends had some toys sent to our house and he absolutely lost his shit over them. It was fantastic. The toys are mustache shaped. Now both the cats can't see them without rubbing their faces all over them.

ahahaha! Does it look like they are wearing mustaches when they have them in their mouths? Awesome toy idea! My cat Muna is most fond of the long furry feather toys but she throws down with some little catnip stuffed hippos now and then. I've never tried blowing bubbles at her! I gotta get me to the dollar store.

Mojo thinks strawberry leaves are the same as catnip.  Scout likes catnip, but doesn't care about fruit.

that black cat is awesome.

The pet store has CATNIP BUBBLES! My friends had some bubbles for their cats, they went bonkers for them.

Linus' favorite toys go like, 1. straws, 2. the blue sparkly ball, 3. ANY AND ALL TRASH THAT MAKES NOISE, 4. mousies, 5. the plastic end of a feather teaser (aka a large straw)

Hugo will play with most of the same things, but he prefers to play with Bill, and like, the toy becomes part of a game with rules.. Like, he wants you to put the feather teaser underneath a big piece of paper so he can pounce on it.
