The smartest cat I have ever known goes bonkers for straws. Not that I'm saying Linus is some genius cat like my brother's cat Osi is, just that they have that in common.

He's the same one your lady was trying to give away for adoption a while ago, right? I didn't know she kept him! That is cool, because I always thought he looked pretty great. Did he end up keeping all of his legs?
I'll be catsitting again for two weeks in two weeks' time! It'll be good! This time I'll try to avoid having the big fat cat pee in the bed, though.

He lost the bad leg, but still tears around the house with the frantic speed of a four-legged cat. He's... something. Really skittish and kind of a dick to the other cats, but loves her roommate.
One of the more entertaining things he does is a result of his fascination with the water in the toilet. He sits on the edge of the toilet seat with his back legs and tries to paw at the water with his single front leg. But not having a thrid leg to balance on, he occasionally topples forward into the bowl. He does this about once a week, then pulls himself out and shoots around the house like a soggy wet pinball.

Poor black cats, they are always terrorized. Trampler looks like a barrel of fun. My cat did a similar thing with the bathtub when I used to have one but she has all four legs. Chango, pictured immediately above and below actually
lost his nose
due to infection before my friend adopted him
He wins the cute award for breathing sounds, though:

My lady's favorite cat similarly lost his eye (and part of his sinus cavity) to infection, so it's constantly making little snorfling sounds. I can attest to the fact that it's super adorable!
In other news, it turns out a cold-water percocet extraction goes remarkably well with two snuggling kitties!

Oh, and this isn't one of the lady's cats, but she used to see it from time to time at her old job. I would know it was in for a checkup because I would get an all-caps text along the lines of GOLLUM CAT IS HERE, YES YES YES

This exists. A dog trainer recommended it to me and I'm willing to try anything at this point to stop Wilson barking at night if I let him outside or crying and barking if I don't. It's glacially slow classical music that I would never listen to under any other circumstances. The one time I've tried it so far he was marginally calmer, but that's not much to go on.

Muna is so glad I'm home and so glad to be back home herself (she stayed with Chango and his human escort while I was away). She also loooves her new catfood featuring salmon as the first ingredient and isn't too picky about the diatomaceous earth I put in her food to get rid of her pesky worm. She is purring and cuddling like never before! It's almost been a year since she came to live with me and I can't imagine not having her around. GUSH.

That is lovely! Yay cats! Also, I like 'human escort' as a term. I couldn't stand it when my old flatmate would refer to me as Hoshi's "mummy" (ugh). The one I use and like the best is from Judith Kerr's 'Mog' Books, which is 'people'. As in, "They put out cushions for the visiting cats, and chairs for the cat's people."

I so love Judith Kerr's books (i haven't read that one though - we've got a few of them). We tend to use the term 'people' too, but not for that reason.

Wow, this is really commonplace around here and I'm frequently guilty of it. Guess I should stop!

eh, it's not that big a deal to me. We use all kinds of things- "mom", "person", "roommate", "bff". It's all good.

I also loathe being called my dog's "daddy."
He's my dog, I'm his person. Other formulations feel kinda creepy.

I think that one is from "Mog's Bad Thing", which is a tragic story where there is a cat show in a tent in the back yard, and Mog is very disturbed by the tent, and does a Bad Thing (shits on the sofa.) I love the Mog books heartily - "Mog's Christmas", "Mog on Fox Night" and "Goodbye Mog" are especial favourites.
Oh, and "Mog's Dream"! That book is NUTS.

For awhile, Dad referred to Rose as Valerie's (who, to be fair, is one of the coolest dogs ever) 'mother'. I wondered what my stepsister would think about that. I was rather disgusted, I was all "Dad's become one of THEM, those people who channel-surf on Monday nights and live for their pets, oh how terrible".
In contrast, Mum sometimes calls one of our cats "Old Shitface" and I once (accidentally) shut the other in the clothes-dryer. I treat my pets with benign neglect.

Oh god, on the Internet I call us the cats' people-parents, and it kind of nauseates me but no one has ever made a big deal out of it. We definitely call ourselves e cats' mommy and daddy at home, but like, only the other one. Like, when Bill is outside, and Linus is whining, I'll ask him if he misses his daddy. But I never hold him and talk about being his mommy.
I may have, at one point, threatened to get a "grandferrets" shirt for each of my parents, but my brother said he would take them away and burn them or something so I never followed through

I find your use of "people-daddy" to be pretty good though, as it's clear that you're not pretending that you're actually the cats' parents.
I'm going to have to look for
Mog's Bad Thing
now. A kids' book about a cat shitting on the furniture sounds great! Have you read
The Tiger Who Came to Tea
? It's pretty good, apart from the inbuilt sexism ;-)
