My mom's mom made it! It's crocheted granny squares. I have a knit one that's all purple she made when I was around 5, and this one she made when I was a teenager. They're made out of acrylic yarn so they're not the softest, but Linus has been kneading them a lot lately anyway. Mmmmm now I want to take a nap.

I am making some good progress where my plans of befriending all of the neighbourhood cats are concerned. Today, while I was doing some cleaning downstairs, I noticed a cat in our garden, pretty close to the open kitchen door. I approached her, and she immediately ran for the bushes, but after a little bit of coaxing, she came back and started sniffing my hand, and within a minute, she was rolling around on the floor and purring and letting me pet her. At some point after a few minutes, a noise in the neighbours' garden scared her and she left.
Several hours later, I met her again - in our office room, upstairs. Turns out she had sneaked in through the still open kitchen door and explored the whole house.

Jim, I think you'd appreciate how many poems I've been writing about my cat these days.

CF, you should meet Chuck Baudelaire, if you don't already know him. I wanted to name my first cat Charles, but she was a she, so I went with Charlotte.
CATS
Feverish lovers, scholars in their lofts,
Both come in their due time to love the cat;
Gentle but powerful, king of the parlor mat,
Lazy, like them, and sensitive to draughts.
Your cat, now, linked to learning and to love,
Exhibits a taste for silences and gloom -
Would make a splendid messenger of doom
If his fierce pride would condescend to serve.
Lost in his daydream, he assumes the pose
Of sphinxes in the desert, languidly
Fixed in a reverie that has no end.
His loins are lit with the fires of alchemy,
And bits of gold, small as the finest sand,
Fleck, here and there, the mystery of his eyes.

I'm afraid I find Baudelaire a bit eggy, at times. Here's one of mine:
To The Cat
You’re good practice for me, little one;
You won’t sit still. You won’t give any heed
To decorum; you and this slight turn in my belly,
From the beer, the cheap food, the tea with milk
Will take me far in this world. You’ll teach me yet
There’s no rest;
There’s no waiting up for life by death.
I swear my bones will learn this in time, if
You’ll give me time; if you’ll afford me patience
As my refuges are destroyed,
If you’ll return my hand to the spindle
When I’m pricked and suddenly recoil;
Give me the long enough distance and ample
Supply of black ink till I’ve spent
My querulous resistance. I’ll go for remedy,
I’ll curse my belly, curse the cat,
As long as there’s sickness. If I’m skilled I’ll run out of words
Before they find the cure.

I don't know, CF. I think you & Chuck could make it work.
Are you a Stones fan? Because "Sympathy for the Devil" is straight from Baudelaire.

If this cat liked other cats and was somewhere closer than Portland OR, I WOULD TOTALLY ADOPT HIM.
