Surprise foster kitten!
Her name is Flosshilde. I got to name her because this is the first foster kitten since I've moved to NYC.

So cute!
I'm also looking at fostering kittens / a cat, because my mother does not want to part with Lola. It is hard to resist straight up adopting a kitten, I've been thinking about
this one
allllll day. But fostering is a better option for me, I think.

My brother and his fiancée were fostering three kittens, and then once they were old enough they got spayed and put in the shelter's heartstring-tugging adoption center at a pet supply store. When she dropped them off, she ended up picking up three more new tiny kittens to foster. Wooo goooood.
I just got a notice that the shelter up here is looking for foster homes because they found someone in town with 30 kittens in their house. I wish I could help! Ugh maybe I'll donate some food soon. I haven't been to their new building.

Mother had to put our hens down today. She said "I feel sad, and grateful to them for being so interesting, keeping me in touch with where food comes from, and laying so many wonderful eggs for over two years." I feel bad for making fun of them for shitting where they eat, and miss seeing them run around the side of the house when you opened the back door.

why'd she have to put them down?
I wear sweaters aaall the time but for some reason this particular sweater I'm wearing makes my new kitty Potato want to grab the buttons with her whole mouth and pull as hard as she can on them. Maybe she hates seafoam green.

since spending my afternoons drinking with the cat is basically the rest of my calendar year, here is the
existential short film
I made last week after 1. attending a Bresson screening, 2. drinking beer with the cat, and 3. procrastinating.

oh, and hey, cat owners, help a n00b out: I find it adorable that she cradles up in my armpit in the middle of the night, but she always sticks out her paws, not in an aggro manner, but I still wind up getting poked and wake up either giggling or jolting from the claw. I can't quite tell what she's doing, since it doesn't seem to be quite a proper stretch either, more like an exploratory prodding of my pit . . . I'm guessing the answer is, "adjust to it," but any chance I can dissuade her from this odd pursuit?

No. Cats tend to vary their sleeping habits, though, so she'll probably switch it up eventually!

Thunder would try to knead me when she was happy to be near me, and I would shout "OW" and pull away, so she's learned that she can only knead parts of me that are covered in clothing. If I'm totally naked, she'll knead the furniture just near me. So if she's smart, she may just stop if you express displeasure. That said, Caliban is as dumb as a pile of raisin bran, and has never learned anything, so.

I never sleep naked anymore, because this cat loves to lunge at moving things, and I do not at all like the notion of rolling over in my sleep and suddenly awakening to cat claws on my jiggling junk.

My cats are really good about leaving my junk alone, though my ex's cat bit my dick once. I did not like that.

You can also start clipping her nails so it doesn't hurt when she gets you.
Today we found Linus has been obsessively licking a spot on his chest that is now raw and kind of bleeding. Dammit Linus.

adf - my cats do that 'exploratory stretch' thing all the time, but they're too thick to train not to do it :-(
Linus! you silly thing, don't lick yourself til you bleed. Mort used to chew the tip of his tail until it was all bleedy. We took him to the vet who recommended drugs. He's on Clomicalm, which seems to take the edge off his craziest behaviour. The first coupla weeks were pretty hard though, getting the dosage right. Too much and he jsut sat around all day looking miserable... you might want to look into something like that *before* your baby is born...

We put him in a shirt for a while. At first he was like I AM PARALYZED WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT but then he got over it and remembered how to jump on things. Now he's coated in bitter apple. I'm not sure what's stressing him out just yet. I think the two of them have been wrestling a bit harder than usual, plus we just received all the baby stuff in the whole world, so they might be a bit worked up over all of that. Otherwise he's just as beard-licky and bonkers as usual!

The shirt is a great idea!
Also cat-shirt paralysis is very amusing. I was trying Jimmy in a singlet for a while to see if I could get him used to a harness, but he would go all flat and just lie on the floor. I've forgotten to do it for a while, but I oughta do it again. I was using special treats to train him, he liked those.

He's used to us dressing him up, but we've never left something on him longer than like, three minutes. He was really confused about wearing this thing for a few hours.

Flosshilde sat on my shoulder for a good five minutes this afternoon. She curled up nicely, nibbled on my ear, tried to bite my nose and here tracked/attacked the toy mouse ausdemfenster was dangling for her.
