Clare today people at my job were talking about the company's Facebook fans and mentioned your name because they didn't get it, and I was like I KNOW HER SHE IS MY FRIEND SHE LIVES IN AUSTRALIA, IT IS A NICKNAME blerp blerp
Oh cool. I win! (or something) I specifically 'liked' something the other day (though I now can't remember what it was) and wondered at the time whether anyone would notice or think it was weird...

I'm all for fluidity of language, but in this age of internets and txt msgs we need to cling to whatever punctuation we can before it disappears altogether.

My punctuational hard-on is so-called 'logical punctuation'. There's not many such conventions that I can say, with a pure heart, are simply the better, logical alternative.

Quote from: Wiki
An example collected by Hayden was found in a newspaper account of a documentary about Merle Haggard:
Among those interviewed were his two ex-wives, Kris Kristofferson and Robert Duvall.[20]
which may be taken to mean that Kris Kristofferson and Robert Duvall were Haggard's ex-wives. A serial comma would preclude this reading:
Among those interviewed were his two ex-wives, Kris Kristofferson, and Robert Duvall.

Huh.
Auckland had a tiny earthquake
earlier this evening. There was a rumbling as if washing machine was starting to spin right next to me on a wooden floor, over in less than half a second. 2.9 on the Richter scale, apparently, which is hardly worth mentioning. Except that that was my first earthquake experience.

My only earthquake experience was in high school and similarly unremarkable. One loud boom, maybe ten seconds of residual rattling. I was at my friend's house, and at the time we thought it was just his little brother falling out of bed upstairs. It was a 3.2 I think.
Since I moved to Southport a couple summers ago, I've gotten acquainted with
Seneca Guns
, which are these loud unexplained booms that shake everything in the house for a few seconds and tend to happen the most in the spring or fall when it's sunny. They're kinda weird cause no one knows what causes them, and the really big ones are actually pretty terrifying at first, loud as fuck and making all the dogs on the street lose their shit. After a while though you barely notice the smaller ones. Apparently they happen mainly along the immediate coast in certain parts of the world, and my area is just one of the hotspots.

I really don't understand a) what you're referring to, or b) what your opinion of that thing actually is. Elaborate?

I think he's talking about
British Style quotation mark punctuation
? Which I like quite a bit more than American style!

I spent three and a half hours putting together a 'Giant Press Out And Play Princess Castle Kit' today. 70 steps, and fiddly as fuck.
edit - here's the evidence!
Oh, yeah, we also have lifesize Doctor Who cardboard cut-outs.

Ooh, so pink! But well done, you, and the Doctor is pretty cool (though I didn't watch any of his season, so I don't even know the name of the chick).

I know - we're not usually quite so pink, but it was a birthday present from one of her school friends - there's no resistance!

This themed-cruise trend is getting out of hand:
Quote
National Public Radio's Scott Simon and PBS' Gwen Ifill are among several public broadcasting personalities sailing on an upcoming Regent Seven Seas cruise in the Mediterranean.
The well-known radio and TV broadcasters will be taking part in the ninth PTV At Sea, kicking off Nov. 10 in Venice on the luxury line's 700-passenger Seven Seas Mariner.
The 10-night voyage, organized by California-based Artful Travelers, will include calls in Croatia, Malta, Monaco and Italy.
As with earlier PTV AT Sea cruises, there will be a number of educational seminars, panel discussions and exclusive receptions involving the public broadcasters, but the big topic on this cruise will be the upcoming U.S. election in 2012 and its impact on the world.

can't sleep so I just gave in and got up. I'm watching The Sound of Music. I shouldn't have taken a 3 hour nap this afternoon and probably should have had an actual dinner but whatareyagonnado.
