godDAMN it, coldforge, I am not responsible for the fact that LCD Soundsystem made a tepid record and people like pollo still voted for it

Seriously though, in order to try to avoid the grousing that's happened in previous years, I really did make more of an effort this year to pick the most recognizable track from any given album. 

The two where you could conceivably blame it on me, though, are Tyler, the Creator and Janelle Monae.  With the latter, I didn't want to use "Tightrope" because it features Big Boi and he's on the mix just a couple tracks later.  I probably should've just used "Cold War," but honestly, I'm kind of sick of that song, and I wanted something less transparently Outkast-ey.  With the former, well, I went back and forth a bunch between "Bastard" and "French."  "French" is definitely more what the album as a whole is like sonically, but "Bastard" is such a self-conscious statement of purpose that I eventually went for it instead.  I figured some people would hate it, but those people will still hate the rest of the album, just maybe a little less.  Plus the lyrics are less rapey than "French."  Not "not rapey," just "less rapey."  There's a reason I didn't vote for Bastard.

But for the rest of them I basically just tried to use the most recognizable track.  Except for The Roots, I guess, because, seriously, I was not going to use "Dear God 2.0"  Where I wasn't familiar with the album, I went to AMG, listened to their track recommendations, and picked the one of those I liked the most/hated the least.

What Roots song did you use? I would have recommended "How I Got Over" or "Right On," personally.
