Saw a honky tonk band cover Exile's I Wanna Kiss You All Over last week at some bar in Austin. Something everyone there could appreciate.

Saw Trampled By Turtles last night.  Pretty awesome.  Did two Band covers in tribute to Levon, and the encore was a niftly version of "Where Is My Mind."   Damn fine band.

Four of my friends were at the Refused secret show/2nd set in NYC last night. Even though I saw them two weeks ago, I'm still super fucking jealous.

I was debating going to see them in Chicago, but it's over 30 bucks, and honestly, I'm not sure what I'll get out of it. They're one of my favorite bands of all time, but I don't know that it's going to do much for me.

Saw a secret way last minute Desaparecidos show last night. Like, they decided to play at 10 and then played at 11. Man, I haven't seen those guys play in probably 9 years. Shit was so great.

They were! They've been on "indefinite hiatus" probably almost the entirety of the 9 years since I last saw them play, but they announced they're playing at this music festival in Omaha this summer, and played this spontaneous show as a warm up. And played 2 brand new songs.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are playing in Oakland in a few days at the Fox. Should I go?

Man, I might. I dug that last record, even if it felt like I shouldn't have.

Are you talking about "Home?"

Hit-wise, probably not, but I liked at least half of that album quite a bit, no lie. And the other half wasn't bad.

The reason for the squeamishness is that the whole hippy-guru-leading-a-hundred-person-happy-band freak-folk scene really galls me, and even if that's not what the music sounds like in this case, it's definitely their defining aesthetic.

For instance, the opening track, 40 Day Dream, is delightful. And right after that you get Janglin' -- which, if it hasn't already been used in a car commercial, certainly should be. (In a good way?)

a couple weekends ago M and I considered going to see Twiztid because...well, because. undecided to the last minute, we went to a nearby bar for happy hour, got a little tanked, and staggered to the venue midshow (it was sold out).

truly, a stereotyped movie version of a Twiztid show could not have been more precisely timed. as we neared the venue (TLA on south street), a side door flung open and a bouncer/Juggalo fight spilled onto the sidewalk immediately in front of us. the venue was already flanked by bicycle cops, who just sat and watched.

then, some girls who could not have been older than 16 started flashing their tits from just inside the open door of the club at the cops on the sidewalk. the cops proved appreciative, so they escalated it to licking each other and grinding. when some random passers by stopped to gawk, the cops actually shouted, "hey! get out of the way!"

finally, some teenage Juggalos approached us and asked where to score some weed. I felt bad confessing that I had no idea, but assured them that someone in the vicinity could surely assist.

the whole experience was much more edifying than, say, seeing Juliana Hatfield and Evan Dando sleepwalk through a dull set a year ago.

So I should go see "Melvins Lite" then?

You're at a festival, the following clashes take place:

Spiritualized - Wolves In The Throne Room (I heard WITTR are breaking up this year..)
The Cure - Dirty Three
The Olivia Tremor Control - Beach House - Demdike Stare
Godflesh - The Weeknd - Yo La Tengo

Where do you go?

Spiritualized / The Cure / OTC / YLT

IMO. YMMV.

I have to say though that seeing them with the expanded line-up makes me feel like I would never want to see them any other way. I know that Melvins as a three-piece will still be awesome and great, but the two drummer action is just the best thing ever.

Though I guess it could be cool because I'd end up paying more attention to what Buzzo is doing.

it depends on how big a fan you are of Godflesh...all the other bands tour fairly consistently (though i guess the last tour the Cure did was 2007 or so).
