Oh man oh man HARVEY MILK is playing here in a couple days!

they were so fucking good at ATP. best show of the 3 i've seen them do by far.

in a funny aside, my wife's goal was to update her facebook profile to a photo of her w/ some band member from the weekend...after seeing HM she decided Creston was a good choice.

She heads outside to the food court area, and i'm browsing the merch table where Creston is buying a t shirt for his daughter. i tell him what's up, he agrees and we saunter out to the outside area where my wife is struck dumb w/ amazement Very Happy

he hung out w/ us for a bit and shot the shit. nice guy. unfortunately it sounds like the touring life is wearing on him, so if you wanna see this band, do it now...

T&P, did you end up going to Dirty Three? I was there but didn't see you, but there was a lot of people and I made it pretty late. The only not awesome thing about that show was the tinnitus it seems to have given me (also I missed Julia Holter's set entirely). Also, we took a bus to get back to my friend's place in the 12th district that actually lost its way and got stuck in a construction site for half an hour!

their set at ATP was the highlight of Day 2.

Should have taken a bike!
I didn't make it though, I kind of ran out of money at the end of the month. All those villette sonique shows were packed though, especially the free ones on the weekend, I didn't even know there were that many people in paris

Nice write-up in a local weekly about my friend's art & records shop in Oakland. Friendly little venue and emergency crash/rehearsal space for any of you music makers on tour.

I was planning on seeing Radiohead last night, but that show didn't happenSad all the way down.

I went to see The Flaming Lips' free show instead, which was good, and then hit up Killer Mike (we are doing the NXNE festival - which is so much less than SXSE, but still fun - which is why there were so many good optioins) which was AWESOME. A lot of enery for such a big guy, and the crowd were pretty ecstatic. His set didn't start until 1:30, so I guess we were all probably good and drunk by that time, too. Also, I didn't know that he was coming back to open for El-P next month (I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he wasn't going to be on the Toronto date), but he said he would be here for that show, so that should great. This show was mostly PL3DGE stuff as I guess the tour with El-P is him doing the R.A.P. Music full album gig thing, so totally different shows, too.

Saw Jonathan Richman at a small club in Richmond last week. He was fantastic, superb show.

Apparently Dick Dale is playing at a bar downtown next week? Is this going to be depressing or awesome?

Wait a sec - is that guy on the right JR? And is that guy on the left you? This is like as good as Yojimbo with his arm around Angelo.

Last weekend I saw this Keith Fullerton Whitman show at our "inidgenous arts" museum (I don't know what to call Quai Branly, edison help me out) as part of this series of free concerts where the artists rework music from the museum's library. It was pretty neat, they played the show tucked away in this garden with a wall of speakers in what looked like handmade wooden cabs.
First group took the music and made dubstep, KFW mashed it up into an hour's worth of little 3-minute (pop?) songs. Not terribly interesting in the end but a pleasant enough way to pass an afternoon.

anyway, this weekend it's Alan Bishop and Hicham Chadly!

Saw a pretty great show last night in Berkeley at the Starry Plough: American Hearts + Olivia Mancini & the Mates, performing separate and together. The Hearts (2 girls & a guy drummer) do a damn good Sleater Kinney, and Olivia Mancini kind of knocked my socks off. Sounds like she's based in DC?

Check out the art for her 45 "Ricky"

Kickass song, too. Listen here

Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars.  Non-stop outdoor dance party at one of my favorite venues in the world, the West Kortright Centre, which would make my admittedly-not-too-extensive list of things I will really miss about this area when I move next month.  Live music almost always makes me happy, but this moreso than most.  So much fun.
