I actually just had the first piece of non-cured pork that I've ever enjoyed, just a couple days ago—super thin-sliced arista, which I guess is a Tuscan-style pork roast. Tasted kind of like turkey!

Cf if you're ever in NC, I'll throw you a combination pig pickin' and oyster roast.

all i have in my fridge these days is supplements, condiments, and old onions... sometimes leftover take-out but not when i've been grazing anywhere decent. take mrkt, for example, they serve the most amazing local organic pulled pork sandwiches for a $1 more than quizno's. $9! worth the small cost of artisan loyalty.

That's mad pricy. The pulled pork sandwich from my favorite place is $3.59. It may not be certified organic but this is Eastern NC, chances are the pig lived down the street and knew your uncle.

that's amazing! can't think of anywhere i can get lunch for less than $5 except those round bun sandwiches from subway (that they don't make anymore. besides, burn a chain shop), unless i cook it myself. suppose my cookbooks have been getting dusty...

EDIT: today's special is alberta pulled pork marinated in maple jus on ciabatta bread w/ apple-sage chutney & melted double cream brie cheese. oh man, i'm so there.

She's not exaggerating, in Canada (lots of parts of it anyway) it is hard to get lunch for under $5.  Even a crappy cheapo lunch is $8-$10.

For dinner after yoga my fucking friend made homemade crunch wrap supremes but instead of refried beans and other shit there were black beans with onion, and a mixture of like zuchinni, celery, other vegetables I can't remember and queso. On the side were lemony potatoes with spinach garlic tomatoes and some other stuff. and red wine. Then we watched 2 episodes of roseanne and talked the rest of the night. She is the absolute best.

Yes, sadly, in big chunks of Canada, for under $5 you can get, like, banh mi, falafel but not shawarma, maybe the house soup if it's small and boring. Or I guess you could also get a fast food burger - but not fries and coke with it - if that floats your boat. That's about it unless you think for a really long time.

Canadian dollars are actually worth more than American dollars these days if I'm not mistaken. Except when it comes to lunch I guess.

I got a digital camera for Father's Day, nothing special but better than a cell phone at food photography. So you'll be seeing a lot of random food porn from me. Like tonight's dinner, chicken schnitzel with cucumber salad, mashed potatoes and pan gravy:

Simple? Yes. But satisfying.

For the last several months now. But no, this hasn't trickled down to the average lunch consumer.
