I had a work dream last night. It's always bad news when I have work dreams.

I hate how much I swing back and forth between being able to tolerate this job--and hell, sometimes even liking it--and just hating it so much.

When I worked at restaraunts I'd always have dreams that I was just there. Serving people, taking orders, cleaning. No weird stuff, just work. It is the absolute worst.

Igsby (that is what my brain calls you, Ignatius), YEAH! I DO STUFF GOOD! So far things are OK. I have everything ready. I just hope the only problem is that the samplers had power failures as usual, or something there are no problems once we get there.

That is true! It's during my lunch hour at work, so I'll have to bring my laptop and think up somewhere quiet to be that's, well, not my office. Still, excellent idea.

Edit: And while I agree with the sentiment, peacocks, the logistics would make butt nakedness a little tricky.

I live in NYC and have no car. I'm thinking the cafe in Barnes and Noble--quieter than Starbucks, I suspect.

Man, Indian dudes are totally not getting that I'm not going to be able to catch both the end of the US day AND the vast majority of the Indian day while working in this time zone.  I'm only supposed to be working 37.5 hours a week here, people.

Second to that!

I have my last day at the supermarket today, after 3.75 years. Woo, I have my Sundays back! Just gotta try keep in touch with the people there who are moderately cool. It was time, though. From that job I learned how to talk to people and I got a boyfriend; I don't think I'm going to top those.

In the building I work at, probably 80% of the businesses are engaged primarily in various types of medicare fraud: selling wheelchairs to people that don't need them and splitting the reimbursement, billing for ambulance trips that didn't happen or didn't need to happen, selling $3,000 catheters, etc.  Which means about once a year, one of these guys gets popped by the feds and they have to seal off a floor and collect evidence, etc.  Today is that day!  So there are a bunch of middle-aged federal agents with flat-top haircuts sitting around sipping from Subway cups, periodically hauling out dolly-loads of banker's boxes.  It's lent the day a nice frisson.

Ha! Our thing is covered by medicare. And it is way more than $3000, I tellyouwhut.
BUT we are like, inspected and accredited and not doing illegal things and stuff. I guess our business would probably benefit from the excision of all the fraudulent people. Ha-ha, frauds. TAKE THAT, SCOOTER STORE.

So I'm pretty sure I kicked butt in my phone interview today, even though there was indeed no good place to do it and I kept having to move about within a bookstore to find quiet spots. I'm pretty sure I won't get the job just because of what they told me about the stage their hiring process is at and their level of selectivity. Plus, I just can't imagine anything so dramatic happening to me. Still, it feels good to know I can still rock an interview if I want to.

I always feel this way when I'm job hunting! To the extent that I can only sit dumbly and stare out of my eyeballs when I actually do get offered a position. Which is just exactly what happened this last time.

Sounds like a decent attitude, even if you don't get it. And who knows, maybe your interview technique bumped you up to the next tier? No need to count yourself out. Either way, a good interview is surely excellent preparation for the next good interview.

Most of these businesses are run by Nigerians, so the standard conservative line is much grosser, I'm sure.
